This little fellow is actually our Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, 1922. . 🇬🇷 HRH was born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, 10 June 1921, in Mon Repos, Corfu, Kingdom of Greece. . ▪️ He is the only son & fifth & final child of Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark & Princess Alice of Battenberg. . ▪️ His father Prince Andrew was in command an army division embroiled in the Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922). The war went badly for Greece, & the Turks made large gains. On 22 September 1922, Philip’s uncle, King Constantine I, was forced to abdicate & the new military government arrested Prince Andrew, along with others. The commander of the army, General Georgios Hatzianestis, & five senior politicians were executed. . ▪️ Prince Andrew’s life was believed to be in danger, & Alice was under surveillance. In December, a revolutionary court banished Prince Andrew from Greece for life. The British naval vessel HMS Calypso evacuated Prince Andrew’s family, with Philip carried to safety in a cot made from a fruit box. . ▪️ Philip’s family went to France, where they settled in the Paris suburb of Saint-Cloud in a house lent to them by his wealthy aunt, Princess George of Greece and Denmark. . ▪️Because Philip left Greece as a baby, he does not speak Greek. In 1992, he said that he “could understand a certain amount”. . . . #britishmonarchy #royals #mountbatten #royale #royalascot #BritishRoyals #princephilipdukeofedinburgh #corfuisland #dukeofedinburgh #history #royal #corfu #monarchy #greekmonarchy #elizabethii #corfugreece #historybuff #danishmonarchy #queenelizabethii #thequeen #royalfamily #monrepos #corfù #historylover #royalbaby #royalty #princephilip #GreeceandDenmark (at Corfu, greece) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9XwGCbHPIF/?igshid=fgtebpb5rzgi
Marking a Historic Year in Denmark
One year ago today, Denmark witnessed a significant chapter in its royal history as Queen Margrethe II formally abdicated the throne, passing the crown to her son, King Frederik X. Queen Margrethe's reign was a beacon of stability and grace, and her abdication after over half a century marked the end of a remarkable era.
As we now reflect on the first year of King Frederik X's reign, it is clear that he has embraced his role with the dedication and poise befitting his lineage. His approach to modernizing the monarchy while honouring its deep-rooted traditions has been widely recognized and celebrated.
This transition symbolizes not just the continuity of the Danish monarchy but also its evolution, resonating with the values of the Danish people. As we commemorate this milestone, we honour Queen Margrethe II's enduring legacy and look forward to the future under King Frederik X's leadership. Long live the King!
