I love Archie Comics (have read them for around 20 years), and I've watched the first two episodes of Riverdale. It's good, I want to find out what happened to Jason, but at the same time, they've changed Jughead, Betty & Archie so much, it doesn't really resemble the comics in any way, and so I do wonder why they didn't just do a completely original teen show.

And the Miss Grundy thing is super weird. It adds nothing to the show, and the only good thing is that Jughead points out to Archie how unhealthy the relationship is and how Miss Grundy is just looking out for herself, and manipulating Archie. But honestly? I would have loved 70 yr old Miss Grundy being a great and warm teacher to the kids.            

Same with all of that.

Also the cover of “Sugar Sugar” is both the best and worst thing I’ve ever heard?

…because i literally enjoy the archies as a band and the bubblegum genre as a whole because i am That vanilla tbh

Was talking to a friend about Jerry Reed last night.  He mentioned how Jerry Reed was on Scooby-Doo, and holyshit I had completely forgotten about that.  In the 1970s, Jerry Reed was a children's television icon, along with Tim Conway, the Harlem Globetrotters, and the Three Stooges. 

Anyway, he mentioned the song that Jerry Reed would sing on the show, and neither of us could remember the name.  Rather than whip out our phones at the bar, we resolved to figure it out at a later time.  Word.

Nerd Time: The song is "Pretty Mary Sunlight."  Jerry Reed "appeared" in the The New Scooby-Doo Movies episode "The Phantom of the County Music Hall" in 1972, because of course he would.  Pretty Mary Sunlight was originally performed by one Danny Janssen in the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? episode "Don't Fool With A Phantom."  Danny Janssen was a staple of children's and family television in the early 1970s, his entertainment career drying up around the time of my birth, just like my mother's vagina must have.   He wrote the theme to the The Patridge Family, "Come On Get Happy!"  Mark Hamill was once on The Partridge Family.  Luke Skywalker never did get his power converters from Tosche Station.

Danny Janssen is a pop music genius. I love him and wish he had done more stuff on his own. Even if you don't know who Danny Janssen is, odds are that you've heard his music. He's the mastermind behind a lot of those great bubblegum pop songs that you heard when you watched Scooby Doo when you were little. This just happens to be my favorite one of those.
