Summary: Darkiplier's S/O had intrusive parents growing up, but he is determined to love them and make them feel safe
Dark didn’t previously know why his S/O startled easily. He always knew they were a bit more anxious and mousy than other people, but never questioned why. He found it slightly endearing but never tried to startle his S/O on purpose. Dark isn’t a man who would want his S/O to be uncomfortable around him.
However, after barging into the house angrily after a long day of work with no knock to warn his S/O beforehand, he watched as they frantically put away whatever they were doing. The way they shook and their lips trembled stopped Dark. He had never seen them in such a state and it concerned him.
Dark had to understand why his S/O had reacted so anxiously. He offered his hand, which his S/O took reluctantly before sitting down with them on the couch. Dark would massage his S/O’s hands and ask what was wrong.
It would take a lot of gentle prodding and waiting, but Dark is a patient man and will wait an eternity for his S/O. He knows they’re already nervous and doesn’t push too hard. He simply wants to understand so he can better love and care for his S/O.
When Dark finally learns the truth about his S/O’s intrusive parents, he struggles to keep his cool. He enjoys his own privacy and believes everyone is entitled to their own—no one should be able to barge in and interrogate you on what you’re doing. Not without good reason.
Dark hugs his S/O and promises to be a better partner. No matter how frustrated work makes him, he will never forget to knock and announce his presence. It’s an unspoken agreement between the two of them and his S/O appreciates it a lot.
Dark is considerate of his S/O’s privacy, unless it is urgent or they need/want him nearby. He never pries about what they’re doing; he’ll ask an occasional question but never more than that. He wants his S/O to feel safe.
Though Dark may not fully understand the depth of his S/O’s anxieties, he is there for them. He will sit and listen to them rant and cry about their parents, and he will offer kisses and hugs to chase the bad memories away. Dark will always protect his S/O—and that includes from intrusive parents and traumatic memories.
When his S/O is very anxious, he’ll take them outside, where there are no doors, and simply freedom. No one would dare intrude on them there. Dark is too intimidating.
In the end, however, Dark loves his S/O dearly and will do whatever it takes to see them smile and laugh. They are worth everything to him. Dark will also ensure his S/O’s parents never bother them in that way again, though how he did it, he’ll never tell.
