fast zombies are my favourite! so thankfully, I'd avoided The Walking Dead until a few years ago

I was initially like "slow zombies and mostly drama? BORING!" but I'm so glad because I got to watch it all for the very first time exactly when I most needed to (my early 30s) and it was strangely magical and extremely soul nourishing

the show is ultimately about human resilience and all the different ways people adapt and cope with unbearable circumstances and unimaginable loss, and how we're nothing without community and each other

sure, it's a work of fiction but it's a reflection of what humans have actually gone through and still endure, but with a sci-fi/horror backdrop

and yes, the series suffers from poor writing in later seasons, both in the main show and Fear the Walking Dead etc., but I've watched every last episode of every spin off and have zero regrets!

it always reminds me of the human potential for hope and love even in the worst conditions, and I can always use that

it's no exaggeration to say the series helped me come away from the brink of suicide and thrive, it helped me see that the stakes of life are very high, that our connections with other people gives life the most meaning, that it's possible to carry profound trauma and loss and still keep going, rebuild, form wholesome bonds, and live again 💗

I'm currently enjoying the recent spinoffs, especially Dead City; I would've never believed that Negan of all villains could become an almost redeemed, complicated character after everything he's done!

Even the Darryl Dixon show is decent at least as nostalgia bait; although neither Darryl nor Carol (love them both) have Negan's famous charisma to carry an entire show, it still has heart and i found myself inspired again...

yeah the Rick and Michonne series was boring, but it's nice to see them both alive and reunited

And omgggggg the video game by TellTale, especially the earlier seasons, is pure art and soul and heartbreak 💔 it has extreme emotional impact, im not even a parent but the game's immersive storytelling gives you a glimpse into the terrifying stakes a parent figure carries, and im yet to recover from seasons 1 & 2 tho i played it 3 years back

Also excited to read the comic books some day when i can afford it, it's one of the many things to look forward to!

I for one am glad AMC and Robert Kirkman are wringing the franchise for every last drop even if their motive is purely profit driven...it's poetic, as the franchise itself has become The Walking Dead

Imagine being Rick Grimes' sister, and starting to date Darryl.

“No - no, no, no, no, no, no,” Your brother said in that southern twang, making Darryl shoot him an amused look from behind you, one arm still wrapped around your waist and the other licking the juices from the fruit he just ate off of his fingers. “Say it a little louder, the walkers on the highway might not have heard ‘ya,” You said, with a roll of your eyes, leaning back against Darryl’s chest. “Come on now, ya surely saw this coming.” Rick’s look of disbelief turned into disgust as he saw the way that Darryl was looking all smug, his hand gently stroking your hip, and you just looking okay with that. “Ya know I’ll take care o’ her,” Darryl said, dropping his other arm, and put that around you securely, making you feel all safe. Your smile was gentle as you looked at his rugged and yet very handsome features. “An’ better me than any of these other fuckers.” You had to nod in agreement about that - it was pretty slim pickings in your group, even if romance wasn’t exactly a priority. “But really, this guy?” Your brother repeated himself, clearly having a hard time wrapping his head around this. “You do anything to hurt her and I’ll make ya wish you were bitten, am I making myself clear?” You and Darryl looked at each other and both burst into chuckles. “You say that like I wouldn’t just beat him up myself, Ricky. You got nothin’ to worry about.”
