Please check out the Dates anthology! It's gay! It's historical! I totes have a gorgeous story in it that I drew while I was healing so the inking is using a lot of smaller lines, and the effect is really cool!!

Dates! An Anthology of Queer Historical Fiction Stories

Rating: ★★★★☆ (3.5)

Blurb: Dates is an anthology of queer historical fiction stories by over 30 creators. It includes almost 30 stories (two prose and the rest comics) and full-color illustrations about queer people living life throughout time and across the world.

Overall, there were plenty of good comics in here and a handful of truly great ones. It's wonderful to have so many happy lgbtqa+ characters in one book. I especially enjoyed the story Mór Ríoghain (about a trans girl who is the soon-to-be queen of Ireland), Hold Fast (about two sailors who have a complicated romantic history), Punch Drunk Love (two men finding trouble outside a gay speakeasy), Emes (a Jewish trans boy immigrating to America), and Freedom of Expression (two lesbians in the Soviet Union finding each other in the underground counterculture movement). However, the limited length of each story was often a problem, as they had to be either very simple or run the risk of putting too much confusing detail in a small space.

So Dates is a really wonderful anthology, but not all stories are created equal. The second volume is also out now!

Margins does Flame Con!

That’s right! We’ll be at the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott in New York this weekend (August 19th and 20th) for Flame Con! We’ll have copies of Dates 1 and 2 (as well as pins and other goodies) for sale at table H91, and backers will be able to pick up their rewards from us there as well.

As you can see from the map above, a ton of Dates contributors are tabling at Flame Con too. Go say hi! (Also, please note that those are our creators’ twitter handles on the map! Follow them there, too!)

Not going to the con? You can still get Dates 1 and 2 online! The preorders will be charged right before Flame Con (in case you want to pick up your book there), and then they’ll ship out the following weekend. Preorder everything at our store!
