Maps in Aura

So the thing about maps in the world of Aura is that they are full of magical potential. A portationist can use a map to travel almost instantly from one place to another: the more accurate the map, the more precise the point of arrival. Most portationists compile their own atlases of maps for use wherever they go, and the most successful ones are those who learned to draw their own maps (the personal connection to the symbols and lines can further pinpoint the intended location).

This means that there is a lot of money to be made by people who can create accurate maps, and a lot of reasons a country might have for wanting to keep maps of their territory secret.

The Datrians/Dralfar and the Vanni have been the most successful at keeping their territories unmapped.

Datri is a jungle, and the difficulty of getting a clear view of landmarks and terrain has generally been the greatest asset to its people in preventing any sort of mapmaking: the people here do not use portation magic, so they never made maps of their own, either. The fact that they are prone to shooting intruders on sight has also been a great discouragement to intrepid explorers.

Vanneesha is more interesting. The Vanni caravans all had detailed maps of their routes, including magical pins that could pinpoint the location of any wagon in their network. These maps were kept secret and sacred for a long time, and outside attempts to map the great planes always turned out inaccurate in some way. Most believed this was some curse of the land, but the truth is that the Vanni caravans followed a complex pattern that effectively marked the whole land with anti-scrying and illusion runes to foil mapmakers unaware of the protections.

When the Janni conquered Vanneesha and destroyed the caravans, they mapped the area along with the rest of their empire. High Janneeshan maps are among the best ever created, second only to those of Drakkannica itself. Both owe their skill to the practice of enlisting Drakken to carry a cartographer up high enough to capture the exact shapes and the best landmarks. The Drakken themselves are also excellent judges of distance, allowing for more accurate scaling than any other method.

All that being said, the very best cartographer in the world was Elorinya Elezin, whose atlas is said to have been accurate enough to transport a person to a moving target such as a specific island among the ruins of Loatha, the wandering isle. As her atlas has been lost, however, there is no way to be certain of this legend.

अनुरूप ने एनडीटीवी को बताया, ‘दरअसल, यह पसंद का मामला था. मुझे करीब एक साल पहले दात्री से फोन आया और उन्होंने मुझसे इस मामले पर चर्चा की. उन्होंने कहा, ‘एक 4 साल का बच्चा, वह थैलेसीमिया से पीड़ित है. शायद केवल आप ही उसे बचा सकते हैं.’ लेकिन उस समय, मुझे यकीन नहीं था कि मैं यह करूंगा. लेकिन बाद में, अपने परिवार और दात्री के लोगों के समर्थन से, मैंने इसे करने का फैसला किया.’

अनुरूप और विहान का पहली बार आमना-सामना एनडीटीवी के कैमरे पर ही हुआ. अनुरूप विहान को हंसता खेलता देखकर भावुक हो गए. विहान की मां भावना भी भावुक थी क्योंकि उसने पहली बार अनुरूप को देखा था, जिसने पारिवारिक जीवन और आशा दी है. 

उन्होंने NDTV से कहा, “वह हमारी सभी प्रार्थनाओं का जवाब है. जब विहान को डायग्नॉस किया गया जब वह 6 महीने का था, हमें पता नहीं था कि विहान कैसा होने जा रहा है. हमें नहीं पता था कि क्या करना है. और फिर हम डॉ सुनील भट्ट के पास गए और हमने दात्री के साथ पंजीकरण किया.

उन्होंने हमें बताया कि बोन मैरो का मैच खोजने की प्रक्रिया बहुत कठिन है. और फिर हमें एक डोनर मिला, हमे विश्वास नहीं हुआ कि हम एक डोनर को पाकर धन्य हो गए, वो बहुत परेशान कर देने वाले दिन थे. लेकिन हां, अब खुशी है.”यह पूछे जाने पर कि उनका बेटा कैसा है, भावना ने कहा, “विहान बहुत अच्छा है, डॉ. सुनील को धन्यवाद, अनूरूप को धन्यवाद और ईश्वर की कृपा के लिए धन्यवाद, विहान अब स्वस्थ है.” उन्होंने टीवी स्क्रीन के सामने विहान को दात्री के डॉक्टरों को hi करने के लिए कहा, विहान ने हाथ हिलाकर उन्हें हैलो कहा. 

अनुरूप ने जवाब देते हुए कहा, “मैं सुपर एक्साइटेड हूं- मैंने बहुत देर तक इंतजार किया. मैंने एक साल तक इंतजार किया. दान के उस दिन से, पूरा परिवार, वह (विहान) हमेशा मेरी प्रार्थनाओं में था. मैं अब सुपर एक्साइटेड हूं. बस इतना ही.”

विहान के डॉक्टर, डॉ.सुनील भट्ट, (बोन मैरो ट्रांसप्लांटेशन, मजूमदार शाह कैंसर सेंटर बेंगलुरु) ने एनडीटीवी को बताया, ‘इस तरह के मामले में एक डोनर ढूंढना बहुत मुश्किल काम है. लेकिन जब एक डोनर एक प्राप्तकर्ता से मिलता है तो मेरे रोंगटे खड़े कर देता है. आप ऐसा कई बार करते हैं, बार-बार करते हैं, लेकिन हर बार जब एक असंबंधित डोनर एक मरीज से मिलता है, यह हमेशा एक भावनात्मक क्षण होता है हम सभी के लिए, “

“विहान को छह महीने की उम्र में थैलेसीमिया नामक बीमारी का पता चला था. इस बीमारी में ऐसा होता है कि पीड़ित अपना खून नहीं बना पाते हैं. इसलिए उन्हें जीवन को बनाए रखने के लिए हर कुछ हफ्तों में बाहर से रक्त चढाना (ब्लड ट्रांसफ्यूजन) पड़ता है, वो भी जीवन भर. लेकिन यह रक्त अपनी जटिलताओं को साथ लाता है और दुर्भाग्य से इनमें से अधिकांश बच्चे जीवन के दूसरे या तीसरे दशक से अधिक नहीं बचते हैं. तो इसका एकमात्र इलाज बोन मैरो ट्रांसप्लांटेशन है और जैसा कि हम सभी जानते हैं कि बोन मैरो ट्रांसप्लांटेशन के लिए हमें किसी को उनके लिए दान करने की आवश्यकता होती है. एक स्वस्थ दाता होना चाहिए जो दान कर सकता है.”
