This is quite literally one of the songs that shaped my musical taste from an extremely young age. We had a VHS copy of Riverdance, and I can remember watching it over and over again between the ages of 4-6. The haunting sound of the Irish Pipes just completely captivated me, as it was an instrument that created sounds I’d never heard before. I think it’s responsible for my love of the Irish pipes and related sounds to this day.

Of course, Sakamoto carried on with his soundtrack work during the 90's, these jobs are some of the reasons he became Mr. Sakamoto. However, I would claim his movie accompaniment to Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights remains one of his most underappreciated efforts. Sure, the motion picture's more known as the piece that put Ralph Fiennes on the map, he's glorious in there, but we mustn't forget the power of the entire story also gets into the focus thanks to Mr. Sakamoto's subtle melodies. While he's not in his ambient mode in there, he does favour a more delicate approach, which does fit the tale. Sadly, Wuthering Heights didn't achieve a great success, yet the music persists as one of those hidden gems in the opus of Sakamoto.
