The babysitter’s club incorrect quote

*Richard taking care of Kristy and Mary-Anne*

5 year old Kristy: Mr.Spier, I accidentally dropped my seed into my mouth and then I accidentally ate it. Am I going to have a lemon tree grow inside my belly?

Richard: Well, let's think about it. Did you also swallow a wet paper towel?

Kristy: Yes.

Super Special #7 Snowbound: Chapter 15 Dawn

Dawn and her mom make it to the airport and are stuck trying to kill time.

We actually have a throwback in Dawn’s journal entry because she says Wednesday night is one of the longest nights of her life and she compares it to when she and Claudia and a bunch of kids got stranded on an island. Yes, the BSC (or some of them) got stranded on an island. Their boat shipwrecked on a small island off the coast of Connecticut. I never read that one but I did find a copy at Savers so I’ll do it here eventually.

Dawn and Sharon just made it to the airport after Dawn was the backseat driver from hell and aggravating her mom as she made her way through the snow to get there. It’s pure chaos at the airport and the airline employee tells the crowd at the counter that the flight from LA has been delayed and is expected to arrive in an hour. So after all that worrying, Jeff isn’t even there yet. Ah, the days before the internet when a quick Google search would now give you the flight status.

To kill time, Dawn and Sharon walk around the airport and look in a gift shop selling overpriced Connecticut souvenirs. Dawn makes a dumb joke about if your plane landed and you didn’t know where you were, you could just go to the gift shop to figure it out. Yeah, I don’t know either. Neither does Sharon. They also go to a newsstand and Dawn leafs through a magazine about California because that’s her only personality trait.

A half hour later, Dawn panics! What if Jeff is scared on the plane? What if he doesn’t know they’re there? What if they still have to go home after this into the blizzard? Sharon tells her she’s picking up Mary Anne’s bad habit, being the queen of passive aggression worrying, and says Jeff knows they wouldn’t abandon him at the airport. She says all they can do now is wait.

Sharon buys a copy of the New York Times and they go back to Jeff’s gate. The airline employee then announces the flight isn’t coming in at all, it’s been rerouted to Washington DC until tomorrow. As Dawn freaks out again, Sharon goes to the counter to talk to the airline employee. Turns out the flight is going to DC, where they’re just getting rain, and the passengers are being put up in a hotel for the night and a flight attendant will take care of Jeff. I rarely fly so I don’t know how accurate this is - do airlines put you up or do they just dump you in the airport and let you fend for yourself?

Dawn is a little reassured and Sharon says they’ll wait at the airport in case anything changes. Sharon then gets in line for the phone at the airline counter to hopefully get in contact with Jeff but the phones go dead. Then an announcement is made that the airport is closing due to the snow and people are advised not to drive anywhere. They’re trapped!

As Dawn flashes back to the BSC Island Adventure (actual continuity in a BSC book!), she and Sharon head to the snack bar. We’re spared Dawn complaining about how airports only serve junk food because she’s surprised to find they have good salads. I’m sure those good salads also cost as much as the breakfast at the Plaza Hotel that Mallory was thinking of. Sharon then buys each of them a book and they try to get comfortable in the plastic chairs and play the waiting game.
