Dodger and Maxine is odd. Them sleeping together after he saves her from the fire makes sense. But he falls fast. He is certainly infatuated with her. I wonder if a lot of is that he has only been in love or even a relationship, once and so much of his thing with Texas was a mess. Plus this isn't much after she dies, then his mom dies. I think his head is all over the place. She doesn't seem as invested as quickly and by the time she is, she's been dealing with Patrick, so someone showing her affection and care has to be appealing. So there are explanations that make it make a little more sense, though the show certainly didn't give them to us.

If I can ignore the start of the two of them, I don't hate it. I don't ship it, but it's not a pairing I'm actively against. It's at least a while before they are properly together; there's lots of longing looks across rooms for a fair bit. Once they are officially together, they have some cute moments. We get some good moments of happy Dodger with her.

I think most of my being ok with it later on is that both of them are good actors. So even though the writing doesn't make sense, they sell it pretty well. In the quieter moments of the two of them together, seeing how they look at each other, I can buy that they are in love. I wish the writing supported that better, but oh well.

That all makes a lot of sense, and yeah, there are definitely little things that support how quickly it moves (specifically on Dodger’s side), even if canon doesn’t want to make it clear.

I look forward to all those little moments between them because I honestly have a hard time getting invested in the idea of this relationship because I’m not a fan of Maxine on her own, but I like her a little more at the point I’m at than I normally do, so I’m hoping I’ll warm up to her a bit more seeing her happy with Dodger at some point. Danny and Nikki are both great actors, though, I totally agree on that.
