Heads up: This is NOT my usual re8/Wintersberg post! It's a rant(?) about a part of the dbh fandom
So, recently I've been revisiting my love for Detroit: Become human and the ship HankCon, because I'm just really attached to them both, and I don't understand why the hate for that ship has been going on for 3 years.
Like, it's such a good pairing, no matter what way you see it??
Romantic? There's a shit ton of slow-burn fluff opportunities awaiting. An alcoholic detective learning to open up again after the loss of a loved one, slowly but surely falling in love with someone he once despised for being the same species as the one he blamed for that loss x a robot just barely learning about himself and feelings as a whole, looking to the detective for guidance and falling for him along the way?? Fucking YES. PLEASE.
Familial? Cute father-son bonding moments + an overprotective father figure, gradually opening up to having some semblance of a family again is here. (Not my cup of tea, since (from my own perspective and understanding) it doesn't seem logical, for lack of a better word. But if that's your thing, you do you.)
Platonic friendship? Good cop, bad cop duo, ready to kick fucking ass. Best goddamn friends in the entire DPD.
There's no bad relationship to give them, and I can't see why some people are so adamant about pushing the father-son dynamic to the point of shaming the community that ships them. I like how the fandom sees their relationship in so many ways, but so many people are just. Ranting off and pushing that dynamic so hard, going on to the HankCon tags and leaving comments and shit like that (on multiple sites. Not just Tumblr).
It's just so dumb to me. There's no proof that the dynamic is "canon" or "meant to be", and I don't understand why that is one of the main arguments used to justify their persistence and shit. The ship isn't problematic either, so the fact it gets under their skin so much is lost on me.
Plus, the shippers are actually pretty chill. Both in general and with the hate. They just defend themselves from the personal attacks and go off to do their thing. It seems so unfair to me, sending hate, especially in the ways I've seen.
Just let the shippers do their thing! They're not harming you by shipping fictional characters :/
