My Weird Little Corner of the World

Welcome to this week’s installment of my weird little corner of the world - where I post the strange and interesting stuff I see on my weekly commute in Washington, DC. It was a relatively tame week, probably linked to the 3 days of hot, rainy weather we had, or the fact that I worked 50 hours and was rarely outside when the weirdos were. People could not be arsed to walk in, and even I - relentless in my thriftiness - took the bus halfway 2 out of 6 times. For the week of 20 June - 24 June:

-beheaded carp

-a dozen roses in a park bin

-dying rat, not yet dead; I suspect he was the victim of a cyclist. The cyclist in this city will run you down… share the road, donks. I think between all the dead fish last week, this week, and the 3 dead / dying rats, there’s an animal serial killer running wild on the Georgetown canal path. Don’t you touch my turtles…

My weird little corner of the world

Welcome to this week’s installment of my weird little corner of the world - where I post the strange and interesting stuff I see on my weekly commute in Washington, DC. For the week of 6 June - 10 June:

-(Gran)Mamasita had a stroke in her car across from my apartment

-White privilege that was so apparent, even other privileged white people go DAMN, that’s THE definition of white privilege.

-8 turtles in 1 day! Yes, including that turtle.

-Some serious yarn bombing... then promptly after some serious yarn proliferation

-Normal-looking lady in teeny, tiny workout shorts walking around holding her vagina

-SWAT team gearing up in alley between 7/11 and public school - no idea which one they went into, wasn’t sticking around to watch

-Chubby Mel Mel is back! And! And! One of those things that only make people who commute religiously happy - she appears to work near where I live, and I apparently work where she lives! Nuts! I saw her twice in one day! And Will saw her, described what she was wearing, and said - “She does look like a chubby Mel Mel!”

It was a pretty tame week... I think people are starting to take the bus more because it’s heating up in DC. I’d still like to keep walking to work. 16 miles a week is a great fitness routine; plus when i get home from work, I can just eat, crash, and not worry about workouts.

I did see something so ridiculous; it was on tv though, not on my commute. They are advertising insect repellent as as “Zika prevention”. ...only in a country with NO reported cases of Zika could Procter and Gamble get away with such shit.

There was some other stuff, like a super pregnant lady being forced to uncomfortably pose for photos with her eager Chinese husband; they drained the canal by 2 ft where the turtles live; this guy made inappropriate hand gestures at me when I passed under a bridge, but it wasn’t really weird, just relatively mundane, for me, for DC.
