Things people have said / asked about DCP that irked me

I am quite sensitive and take things seriously, so I wanted to compose some of the questions that I’ve gotten in person that made me a lil annoyed ? or something lmao & my responses!

You know you will be working, right?

Of course! Disney had us sign a contract saying we will be working 30 hours + per week. I’m excited to be working at the Magic Kingdom and in AC (quick service!)

Are you going to be able to stand those shifts?

This is referring to my personal energy level. I like to take naps, sleep is important to me. Those first few shifts will be hard ngl, but I know I can power through them!

I’m a chemical engineering major, so working long and hard is nothing shocking for me. I’ve gone through reading my textbooks and taking notes for independent study for over 6-8 hours in a day, plus classes, plus my university job I also had. This won’t be the same but I’m not a stranger to working hard! This comment is kind of a personal jab and made me feel :/

What if you become one of those people who doesn’t like Disney because they worked there?

I don’t think that’ll happen. Disney has always been THE spot for my family... we don’t go on many other vacations. I went a lot as a kid, especially the year after my mom passed away. It started as a way to take my sister and I’s minds off her passing, then became an exciting place to come back to and to explore with family!

Disney is always changing, and I’ll be working at 1 park. So even if I get tired of the place I work (I highly doubt I’ll get tired of the Magic Kingdom though?) I have 3 more parks to explore!

Those are the big three but I’ll without a doubt have more. Just wanted to share!

Hi! I have a question about Entertainment. I'm Mouse height (4'11") but I'm worried that I may be a little too curvy/chubby for the role. Do you know anything about those costumes and how forgiving they may be for someone who's a little more well-endowed? Thanks!!

Hello! I worked with a lot of people that were Mouse/Duck height  and they were all of different body types. 

The costume can be a bit restricting in the chest area, because they do not give any of the mice or ducks chests, even the girls. So that may squish you down, but I would say a sports bra would help that not be too big of a problem. Otherwise the arms and legs are fabric that forms tightly to your body, whatever the size.

I'm so nervous about apps dropping and applying for the Fall Program and don't know what to do!! Any tips and advice for a first timer like me??

Well, let me just start by saying and pointing out that I’m a first time applicant as well and am currently doing my Spring 2017 Program. While there’s many stories out there of how people are on their second to fourth attempt with applying, there are just as many stories out there of those who get in on their first try. You got this! You can do this! Just remember that. Just fill out the information as honestly as possible and true to the best of your ability. Also, when selecting your interests for which roles you would like, show you have an interest in multiples. It shows Disney that you’re expandable and are open to be wherever they may potentially need you. I put high interest in four roles and medium in a few others I knew that I would be super chill with doing, then low interest to none ( if I knew I wouldn’t be capable of performing said role ) to the ones that I had no interest in. For example, some roles require you to be able to drive. I lack a license so that rules those ones out for me. There’s many roles available and don’t be afraid to put down something you’ve never tried / done before! While I have most experience with fast food and retail, I also put moderate interest with housekeeping and ended up landing that role with the company. Needless to say that I am really excited to get to try out something new at my home resort. 

If you go into it with a positive mindset -- while still keeping in mind the reality of your current situation, you’ll be golden. Being a cast member is a dream come true for a lot of people -- it certainly is for me! If you’d like to know more, or would like some more tips to help along with the application process -- I’ll be glad to help you ( or anyone out there ) out! Do you think it'll be easier or harder to get into the advantage program?

I’m not sure. I’ve personally never really prioritized the advantage program, but I’ve had several friends who were in it this last spring. I feel like it depends on how much of a need there is for your top roles and specifically the one they choose for you.

First week/Housing itinerary

So arrivals on May 9 are the first to check into Disney programs with a new check in process. A few weeks ago housing let us know we would get our complex in advance - after we filled out dorms. We got dorms three weeks before our arrival, and were only allowed to make groups of 3 links for housing, my group of 6 split into 3 pairs. Yesterday (9 days out from arrival) we got our first week itineraries with every meeting we have to go to and traditions time (may 12 at 8 am yo!!!) as well as our HOUSING COMPLEX!!!! We got vista LOL last choice af. But the other two pairs of our 6 got it as well! Actually a lot of Canadians got it. Half of the ppl who have replied to the poll in the Facebook group got vista, and for so many it was their last choice. Im not too disappointed, it'll be what we make of it and we will make it great :)
