D-Day Veterans

For the generation who defended our rights, our freedom and our future, we owe immense and immeasurable respect, kindness and love. It is our duty, as the next generation, not only to look forward, to strive for a safer, brighter future for those who will follow us, but also to look backwards, and remember all those who did the same for us.

We have a responsibility to honour and educate others on the memories of those who laid their lives down for us and, following the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Landings, I humbly ask you to donate to, or at least tell others, about the Normandy Memorial Trust. The project is already underway, located at Ver-sur-Mer, and aims to commemorate those who fought at the Battle of Normandy, including the 22,442 British servicemen who lost their lives.

If you have the time, educate yourself. Read up on these incredible people and their stories. You will not be disappointed. These men, women and children were, and are, real-life superheroes. Long after our existence, they deserve to be remembered.

Memorials are a beautiful, peaceful and fitting way to commemorate, honour and remember our many war veterans.

Here’s my family’s D-Day story - my grandfather - the man in the middle of this story - enlisted into the Armed Forces, which I think was still the British armed Forces in World War II so that his children wouldn’t have to - but the war went on too long and two of his sons had to go too - my uncle Russell who went on to become a decorated war veteran and my Uncle Clifford who I have never met because he has always lived in BC but I think he became a pilot while in the Forces - one son of age was allowed to stay home to take care of the farm and that was my uncle Irvine who all the younger children considered to be their Dad and actually when their real dad came home from the war had they a hard time transitioning to him - my Dad went on to serve in the Korean War and had a 25 year career in the Canadian navy (my Dad is on the far right) #veterans #dday #dday2019 #canadianveterans #worldwar2 #rememberingwar #oldphotograph #vintagephotograph #afatherslove #sinden #remember (at Dogkisser International Headquarters) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bybv14aHrFQ/?igshid=b8h5825iv2hb

Some impressions from our trip to Jersey. A nice island in the channel that had been annected by German forces during WW2. One of the few british islands the Germans were able to occupy.

The war tunnels especially, telling the story of the island and her people during that time and the struggles of survival. The installation was amazing.

I‘m aboslutely going to revisit Jersey and then at least a week!
