He didn't see anything at first, getting ready to turn around and examine the area behind him when he saw it.

Tony had done a double take when he saw it, wait, not it, a child. There was a child sitting in the far end of the alleyway, his small frame visible in the shadows. He couldn't be more than two years old, the small body curled up on it's side in Tony's direction.

Or, in which, Peter is de-aged and Tony bares the responsibility of looking after him.

I’m Hanging on By a Thread 

Auston Matthews/Mitch Marner

Pt1, Pt 2, Pt 3

By the time they got to the rink Mitch is feeling a little more together. Patty had grabbed Auston a happy meal and he was happily munching away, a nugget in one hand and a fry in the other.

Mitch climbed out of the car and went around to grab Auston. When he pulled the door open Matts grinned up at him, ketchup smeared across both cheeks and his hands, and looked at Mitch like he was the best thing the kid had ever seen.

It was a lot of cuteness to handle at one time and Mitch could feel his heart trip inside his chest. “Jesus kid you’re a mess.” Mitch said, his tone equal parts fond and amused.

“I sorry Mitchy.” Auston said with a pretty effective pout on his little face.

How exactly was Mitch supposed to survive this? He had a hard enough time protecting his heart around full grown Auston. Mini-Matts? No he was a complete goner.

“Its ok buddy. We’ll get you cleaned up.” Mitch said as he lifted the kid out of the car. He poked him in his soft little belly and Auston pealed with laughter.

“C’mon you two.” Patty said with an indulgent smile.

They headed across the parking lot and through the maze of hallways to the locker room. Mitch could hear the noise from his team already and he was strangely nervous about taking the little boy in his arms inside. Which was crazy because this was Auston’s team, they loved him, and there were quite a few guys on the team who had kids of their own.

Honestly Mitch was probably the least qualified to take care of a  small child, except for maybe the rookies and Willy. The thing was though Matts seemed to want him like this. Clinging to him and happy just to be around Mitch so as long as he had that trust he was going to try and live up to it.

Patty held the door open and Mitch took a deep breath and stepped inside, rubbing circles into Auston’s back. He wasn’t sure which one of them he was trying to sooth honestly because with the increase in volume Auston buried his face in Mitch’s neck again in a sudden wave of shyness.

Mitch heard a few guys call out to him while others were horsing around. Kappy and Willy were wrestling on one side of the room while Hymie sat between them in his stall doing his best to ignore them but it was Marty who caught his eye and stared at them with a single eyebrow raised.

“Umm Mitch bud, tell me you didn’t steal a kid?” Marty called and several of the guys turned to look at that.

“No I didn’t steal him. Um, guys this is…” Mitch trailed off. He was sort of at a loss on how to explain this and he turned to Patty for help.

“Boys something has happened and this little guy is Auston.” Patty said.

“Very funny. How the hell did you get Patty in on a prank?” Willy asked petulantly. “He never pranks anyone!”

Mitch leaned down to whisper into the hair at the top of Matts’ head “Hey buddy the guys really want to see you. Can you say hi?”

Auston peeked up to look at Mitch and he tried to look as encouraging as possible. Auston must have seen what he was looking for because he turned a bit to face the room more and waved with a soft “Hi.”

There was a moment of complete and utter silence and Mitch could see the looks of disbelief on many of his teammates faces, although surprisingly not all of them. Willy was the one to finally snap out of it first and he took one stumbling step towards them.

“What the actual fuck Marns?!” Willy said in complete shock.

“Bad word, Willy!” Matts said with a mutinous glare.

Willy looked slightly guilty at that and for maybe the umpteenth time today Mitch wonder how exactly this was his life.

“But - you agreed!” Lance sputters, incredulous and defensive. “I mean, fine, yes, we should have gone with him, but - I didn’t realize he didn’t know - ”

“How could he?” Hunk groans. He scrubs his hands down his face, distraught. “Why didn’t we think? Aw man, Shiro could be anywhere!”

“Well, it’s done now, isn’t it?” Allura snaps, concern badly hidden in her harsh tone. “Arguing about it is not going to help.”

“Easy for you to say,” Lance says, glaring. “It’s your fault Shiro’s lost, princess.”

Allura’s eyes narrow. “Excuse me?”

Your deaged fic idea is pure genius! I absolutely love the concept of Max taking care of kid Daniel, who is overactive, scared of dogs, and has a nut allergy. I remember in an On the Sofa video, Max tells Daniel, “Be nice or I won’t give you any chocolates anymore.” It's adorable to imagine Max always carrying around treats to give to kid Daniel because he has such a sweet tooth. And something something… the food being a metaphor for sacrifice and discipline for adult Daniel is so powerful, but now Max can give kid Daniel anything without additional baggage or guilt about making weight, etc. Also, Max is so incredibly concerned about Daniel's nut allergy! He has a list of his allergies on his phone, but he already memorized it ages ago. He carries an EpiPen everywhere he goes just in case. During FP, Max has to go in the car, so he asks Blake to watch Daniel. Of course, kid Daniel gets distracted and runs off, and Blake is more concerned about Max getting out of the car to a missing Daniel than about Daniel himself. Several people in RB have to take turns watching kid Daniel bc he is EXHAUSTING. When Max comes to relieve them of their baby-sitting duties, everyone breathes a sigh of relief. They all ask how Max handles him, but Max just shrugs because, of course, Daniel is such a fun and endearing kid to him. 

anon you are so wise and this is critical de-aged fic lore now. i LOVE that video of young daniel like throwing things at people and ducking behind a table. so good and so important. HE IS JUST FUN AND ENDEARING TO MAX.

SO curious what your DREAM maxiel fic(s) would be to read (not write!! but that too lol if you wanna answer). what would be the plot!!? what would be the dynamic/characterization? ❤️❤️

SO MANY! this will get so long so i’ll just say:

magically de-aged fic: in a universe of em's invention, mental+physical magical de-aging sometimes just happens. to go back to normal the fastest, you need to stay in your environment surrounded by the same people as your day to day life (no dumping the de-aged person back with their parents in their childhood home etc.! that would really prolong it). max gets de-aged after finishing a race and baby duckling style imprints on daniel (picture 2016 max but somehow even more starstruck) so daniel volunteers to be stay with max until it fixes itself. just lots of daniel laughing at every single one of kid max's bad jokes, letting him ramble on and on about racing and not getting bored, just loving how excited max is. daniel tells kid max all about what a great man he will become and every time kid max makes it about being a WORLD CHAMPION daniel is like, "nah but you're so nice and funny and a good cat dad and you know all these world flags and you're such a nerd" etc etc etc like I VALUE YOU FOR SO MUCH MORE THAN RACING. jimmy and sassy are obsessed with kid max ofc. daniel turns down the offer to drive for max in the next race(!!) because he just wants to care for max. max switches back before that anyway and still has his memories of being a kid and gives daniel feedback like, "you cannot just let kids stay up late because they ask. you need to of course set limits." daniel is like, “but you wanted to see the ending of toy story 3!” etc. daniel finds himself doing things like holding out max’s jacket for him and jokes about forgetting max is a big boy now, but really he just wants to take care of max? then DANIEL gets de-aged and he’s SO annoying and naughty and SO MUCH but NOT too much for max who’s so patient and kind and it’s just the whole “i accept and embrace every part of you; you’re not too much for me.” anyway, he turns back and everyone stays grown ups but maybe they go to legoland billund or something just to embrace their inner child and just have the best time together. and it’s a slow slow slow slow burn friends to lovers and it’s all about care and trust and vulnerability.

it would have to be SUCH a long fic and SO delicately handled and a challenge i am not up for at the moment, so i will just continue to blow up @magicalrocketships’s DMs about this. 😎👉
