Bought a new bigger box for my insects, spiders and snails. It's already nearly full. Apparently I need more than one box. WELL.

SHARES APPRECIATED!!!
So FUNNY STORY!
We have reached the time of year where you can find dead bees on the ground because they are like. Dying right now, and some weird part of my gremlin brain is fascinated by dead things so I just pick them up occasionally.
Also, right now we are doing the subject insects in art class.
Long story short, I forgot we had to bring reference sketches as a homework, and since I really love my teacher and can't handle her glaring disapprovingly at me, I just pulled out a dead bumblebee and started sketching it.
Here's the result of that!
I got a compliment from my teacher who was very much ignoring the fucking corpse I had dragged into her classroom, so that's great.
But the thing is.
I can't just start bringing normal references in the form of pictures to class, now can I? It would kind of blow my cover. Probably.
So yeah, I might post a few sketches of a bee later.
Dead Insects
(microfiction, September writing prompt from @nosebleedclub)
In the dead heat of summer collapsing, I rode my Trek past the scarecrow with eyes from hell on Savage Farm. I passed the forgotten field, cycling miles into no man’s land which hosted the abandoned white house. Rumor was, anyone who visited alone would not return back alive—especially if you were bedeviled by "the call."
I had to prove to the other guys at school that this dare was nothing I couldn’t handle. Prove this was all bullshit. Mission was, go in, take a selfie and jet.
A loud shrill picked up as I closed in on the splintered front door. Buzzing followed, the cacophony amplifying. It reminded me of an army of cicadas. These bugs don’t shut up when it’s blazing out. But it was fall. Neither was it hot enough for them to scream or for the males to click their tymbals for a mate. So, where the heck were they coming from?
Mouth-deep inside the house, my eyes landed on the floor of the bare living room. Piles of what looked like ashes and dead insects littered the ground. Dust rode the windows in layers. Mold covered the walls in splotches like the room was sweating grime.
I pulled the Samsung from my pocket, ready to take a selfie when the air changed, thick with the scent of road kill. I covered my nose, fighting a gag. The phone slipped out of my hand with a thunk.
A cloud of charcoal debris whipped up from the floor. I coughed and blinked, mesmerized by the flapping wings inside the amassed swirl which continued to expand and grow by the second. I was sure those were the veined wings of cicadas.
The infantry of black mass rushed forward, full throttle.
BUZZZZZZZ BUZZZZZZZZ BUZZZZZZZZZ
A scream as loud as a girl's escaped from deep within me. Swarm streamlined into my mouth—a tunnel large enough for the dead to infest.
I’ve finally finished my collection for my Insect Taxonomy class!! 121 families, 22 orders. Glad but also sad that it’s finally over now. Looking forward to collecting for fun in the Spring
