Hand shadows, 1890 - 1900
I watched the Czech Silmarillion musical, and I LOVED IT!! Here's some of my favourite bits (though not all, this thing has a lot of gems, please check it out.)
In other news, I am shutting this side blog down! Don't worry, I won't delete it, and you will be able to keep seeing my art on my main blog, @aroace-moron , under the tag #my art. I'll also repost most of the stuff already posted here over there, so don't be confused if you see my art twice on both this blog and my main one.
Melian and Thingol, the Silmarillion
This is a still life I have been working on in class for a while, and I am so happy with how it came out!
Our teacher said that the vegetables would get moldy at some point even if we kept them in a fridge, and then added, and I quote: "But that's alright! It's vanitas! Paint the vanitas too!"
I'm pretty sure I could have used the pretzel stick in the middle as a bludgeoning weapon to kill someone with by the end, and the fennel did get a bit slimy and brown at the ends and the bottom, but the apple on the left was still edible, after I had washed it thorougly, and I ate it to spite my horrified friends.
Also, I am never calling mold anything but vanitas ever again, this is amazing.
I can't really post anything from my sketchbook because my teacher is grading it atm, but I can show you my classwork!
Which I didn't do in class.
Just so you know I can draw stuff besides elves, too.
I just got these graded, and I have full points! I'm so happy!

The Lake at the Edge of Time
A little scenery practice for a story of mine.
Remember this?
Well:
It's done!!
:D
The last stand of Fingolfin.
Children of the Silmarillion
1. Amrod and Amras
2. Nellas and Turin
3. Elrond and Elros (and a bit of Maglor)
I have nearly filled up an entire sketchbook in the past months and I haven't posted any of it whoops.
So have a redraw of sorts!
I am participating in Tolkientober (no I am not too late what are you talking about)!
There are obviously a lot of beginnings in Tolkiens universe, but I like this one so here you go.
So I'm sketching lotr characters, using screenshots as references, and I just noticed how fucking weird the elves look.
I am very much not a visual person, so I tend to not notice these kinds of things unless they're back to back, but like -
Take Eowyn, for example. She has freckles, her hair isn't tidy most of the time, she has eyebags, there's dirt in her face on the battlefield. She looks like a real person, is what I'm trying to say.
Galadriel? Airbrushed. It looks like someone deleted every single bit of asymnetry. No imperfections. Not one wrinkle. Every pore looks like it is sealed shut. (Does she have pores? Not important)
And I KNOW that they probably DID airbrush her, and I KNOW that she is probably wearing tons and tons of makeup, but in universe, this is fucking eerie, okay?? I love this.
These are the sketches I was talking about btw.
Also fun conversation I had with my mum about them:
Me: So can you name the characters?
My mum: Um. That's that elf lady.
Me: Mhm?
My mum: And that's that little dwarf.
Me: Yeah? Who's this? *points at Aragorn*
My mum: ...Maedhros?
So in conclusion, all I have to do is draw a character very disheveld and exhausted, and my mum will think he's Maedhros. That's fun to know.
