11. What is one head canon you believe so strongly, you sometimes forget it's technically not canon?

I'm generally quite canon compliant: I like my headcanons to at least feel fitting to the canon, if they're not directly backed up by it.

There is one that I can think of that fits the ask. Due to brilliant fics like Chronicles of the Cretaceous by T33la (link should open to the relevant chapter) and Countergambit by lepapillonrose, I honestly forget sometimes that 03 Leo and Don aren't established to play chess together in canon!

It's such a perfect headcanon, it's become canon for me!

15. If you got mutated, what animal would you be mutated into? Which one would you want to be mutated into?

I genuinely don't mind answering this again, because I love this question!!

If we're going by 87/Rise rules of the last animal you had contact with, then I'd almost certainly be a domestic cat mutant.

Not only do I have my own little fluffy void, but I also work at a cat shelter irl. So the odds of having cat DNA on me at any moment are quite substantial XD

An upfront, simple “What?” was how Raph always answered his shell cell. It did Mikey some good to hear it now; it felt like a blunt point of pressure against his ear, something to ground him through the haze.

“Heeey, Raphie…How’s work?”

“Better before ya called to interrupt me and my little friend here. You should’ve seen this guy, comin’ at me head on when he’s ninety pounds soakin’ wet—”

“Speaking of, uhh…soaking wet? I might have a little problem…with a little bonk on the head that might be bleeding a little more than I thought?”

“What?!”

“Yeah, pretty sure my cell’s getting like, glued to my face right now. Don’t think Donnie’ll be happy about the mess so…you wanna come see? When you got a minute? S’no rush. Except this head rush, heh…”

He must have been giving Raph directions along the way but it felt like a mere blink before his brother came screeching into the alley on his bike, the headlights nauseatingly bright. Through the somersaults of queasiness and the blurry spots in his vision, he couldn’t make out Raph’s expression but the way he stopped short spoke volumes.

“…Oh. Shell. Shell, that’s a lotta blood.”

“Mhmm…” The world swam precariously when Mikey tried to nod so instead he opted to rest his head blearily against the wall behind him. “What d’you think? S’it my color? Orange is the new red?”

“Not a chance.” Contrary to the gentleness of his hands as he peeled and pried the sticky shell cell away, feeling around for the wound, the low, ferocious rumble in his voice gave the idling engine nearby a run for its money. “Think whoever did this to you oughta try it on for size. Hear it goes great with black an’ blue.”

- im a big fan of renet and silver sentry in 2003.

- y’gythgba and g’throkka in 2012!! so much so that im building salamandria <3

- for mm/tottmnt: i adore rahzar <3 i also just like the concept of the turtles having friends their age. irma is cool! so is hun :] i wish we coulda seen more of them

michelangelo, usually! the reason this isn’t an “always” is because i can’t stand him in the bayverse movies dhshdhshd

my favorite version is definitely 2003. rise might’ve been a tie had we gotten to see more though. my own iteration is my attempt at a balanced mix between the two lol

1. what’s your favorite iteration/version?

2003. rise is also a good contender but it got cut short (i’m confident if rise got at least 3 seasons, they would have tied). ‘03 is the one i write and draw for the most, even more than my own version.

12. do you have an OC?

i have several! the main 3 are Brooklyn, Tomatillo, and T’Ytian. i also have Finn and Lilith.

i’m still in the design phase of Lilith so i have nothing to show right now, but she’s a rockstar :]

as a quick 1 sentence summary of who each of them are:

Finn: shark therapist born in a mafia family.

T’Ytian: young salamandrian with the personality of a golden retriever.

Tomatillo: sassy softshell turtle who’s basically the embodiment of my anxiety.

Brooklyn: awkward lonely nerd girl who is trying so hard to be hinged*

Lilith: rockstar werewolf!

2. (mikey merch)

i have merch, it’s just not centered around mikey. like, i have a ninja turtles backpack and blanket, but it’s got all four turtles on it (both are for rise!). i did have a shirt with 2012 mikey on it that said “yeah im into fitness… fittin’ this pizza in my mouth!” but they made the base color lime green for some reason(???) and it was so ugly so i got rid of it :/

i also have toys! but again, it’s all four of the boys.

8. (favorite dynamics (non-family))

oooooooooh ok ok ok im such a fan of mikey and sydney in the underground episodes. mikey’s usually the panicky type but sydney getting jittery (especially with the low pitched voice) is so funny to me. mikey gets to play hero and be the brave one next to this intimidating monster.

ALSO @/love-killed-the-superstar WROTE A PIECE ON MIKEY AND ANGEL AND THEY’RE BESTIES IN MY HEAD NOW SORRY NOT SORRY

i’m also a big fan of mikey and leatherhead, especially in 2003 because leatherhead is a nerd. i will always love silly + nerd dynamics <3

for rise, i adore the first ep mikey meets foot recruit <3 the parallels of both of them trying to prove their independence and abilities will never not be funny. “yeah! she gets it!” lives in my head rent free forever

21 - What is your favourite story arc?

The first thing that popped into my head was the City at War arc from the Mirage comics, which has its flaws but has a lot of really interesting elements in it - Splinter and Casey in particular have some really meaty stuff going on, and Donnie had a moment which I really enjoyed.

Also a huge fan of the classic 'Leo (or on one occasion, Raph) gets thrown through a window plot, obviously!

I tend to like smaller segments of a series rather than whole arcs a lot of the time though I guess (ADHD brain likes things in small chunks....) - I could ramble for days about individual episodes / issues / scenes / panels though!

27 - Something you love to see in TMNT fan art/ fics?

I'm a sucker for fluff and family/ platonic bonding, so any fan art or fics that give me the turtles and friends being loving and affectionate with one another is just... 😘👌

Like the rest of the story can involve whatever but like. Give me that sweet wholesome character interaction at some point and you're golden, basically.

39 - Do you have any TMNT OCs?

I have my own versions of TMNT characters, if that counts! I do also have a character that I made using the TTRPG, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness, ages ago, who I would love to try and insert into my AU somehow. He's a Northern Cardinal who has a really broad Bronx accent, a leather jacket, and just one single brain cell. 😆

I getchu. I don't understand why tumblr hasn't figured out how to allow us to submit asks from different blogs now that we can reply as different blogs??? Also, same. I had to submit to your blog as my main, trisockatops, lol!

1. which mikey is your favorite version?

omg choices are hard. I'm actually going to go with 90s movies Mikey! 90s movie Mikey was a really good blend of doofus and serious ninja that led to him getting some really amazing and moments.

Mikey and Donnie's interactions while watching Leo and Raph fight crack me up every time. They're such the cool, nonchalant siblings tired of this shit but knowing this shit isn't gonna end anytime soon.

Who can forget Mikey with no hesitation running into a burning building to save a child he'd just met?

The whole Second opening sequence is absolutely golden, but Mikey A) knocking out Foot with a 0.2 ounce yo-yo, B) Mikey playing both parts in the fight behind the meat counter, and C) Mikey running off the Foot with sausage is HILARIOUS. (Don is also a huge star in this clip. Him being the weeble lives rent free in my head and is the entire reason I know what a weeble even is.)

Mikey drawing out Splinter's funny side because Splinter is worried about him and getting Splinter to wear a lampshade to cheer him up!? And Mikey's absolutely precious laugh afterwords? Omg, precious babies.

Mikey being the one to hold the donuts but then still make Leo be the one to call a stop to the fight and give him a chance to offer them to Tokka and Rahzar. xD Plus the classic "Which one's the ugly one?" That line also lives rent free in my head. I quote it all the time looool.

I just really enjoy the utter campiness of the 90s movies and how everyone really got a chance to shine and be both funny and awesome. This is a great version of Mikey.

2. do you have any mikey merch?

Ah, sadly, I've been moving a lot, so I pared down on a lot of my TMNT merch to make things easier on myself, so a lot of my Mikey-centric stuff is gone. :( I have some cool group things, still, though!

Just got this sweatshirt for Christmas. It is super comfy.

I'm not even sure how old this pillow is anymore, but it's been through most of college with me.

My beloved fridge magnets which were once cake toppers.

I also have a set of miniature figures of the guys that are rather 2k7 in build that I love, but they're currently still packed way from my move in December. (The walls here are brick, so I need a special tool to put shelves up so I can display them, lol.)

4. what headcanons do you have?

I love ADHD!Mikey. That's definitely a fave.

A lot of iterations of TMNT give the boys a lot of inner strife over having to be secret and removed from the world, but I actually think Mikey is most at peace with this out of all the boys. Raph's got obvious anger issues over the juxtaposition of all they do to help the city/world and how people would just fear or hate them if their presence was revealed. Donnie has so much he could contribute to the world scientifically, and ofc there's some aspect of this that can be conveyed just through screens, but he can't make a name for himself. He can't go to conferences. He can't teach. He can't really collaborate with others beyond anonymous chatting. He can't really publish. That's absolutely gotta wear on him. Leo may seem like the obvious most at peace, but I think he really internalizes this alienation and isolation and it causes a lot of inner turmoil and anxiety. But Mikey I feel is the most connected with the world and so feels the least disconnected. He's got a strong network of contacts in 2k3 with the Justice Force and Nobody. In 2k7, he outright had an in-person job as a party performer. Really, he's so friendly and extroverted that he can't help but make friends, and he's the most likely to put himself out there and risk being revealed if it would help someone. I think he also has tends to have a lot more emotional coping skills/maturity than his brothers tend to have, so if he is bothered by this isolation, he better knows how to deal. Whereas Raph tends to explode and take his emotions out on other and Leo/Donnie tend to internalize until they reach denial or acceptance (more Donnie) or explode (very Leo). Acting in a juvenile manner doesn't actually mean Mikey is immature. (2k3 Mikey's speech on feeling bad for Leo while he was struggling with PTSD because he took on so much responsibility so the rest of them didn't have to is case and point.)

Mikey's pranks and distraction tactics are less a mechanism of fear of responsibility but more of fear of failure. Leo's great at strategy, Raph is pure brute strength and a lack of fear, Donnie's amazing intelligent - there's a lot for Mikey to have to try and live up to, and it's scary that he might not have a place in that and that maybe he's not as good or talented as his brother. So he carved out this niche for himself as being dramatic and ridiculous, so maybe he'll never be good enough, but he'll sure as shell never be forgotten.

Which iterations are you familiar with

I have seen: the 1987 cartoon. The three 90's movies, the 2003 cartoon (+ turtles forever movie), The 2007 animated movie, the 2012 cartoon, the bayverse movies, the Rise of the tmnt (+ movie), the Batman vs tmnt movie, and the Mutant mayhem movie. I also have read The Last Ronin (only the first 5chapter one shot. Have not read The Lost Years or whatever the sequel to it is). Hmmm I Think that's it? So like. A good chunk of it. Sadly no comics besides last ronin.

17 Which version of the Shredder is your favorite?

I think 03 shredder is probably my fav. Mostly because 03 was the first series I watched, but also because he's a little cockroach who wont die and and is a serious threat. Also it's just so funny for him to be this like, charming manipulator most of the time. But then you get ch'rell out of the suit and suddenly he's this feral little face grabbing alien and I love it. But I think 90's shredder is the best "fulluly human" shredder. He's a regular dude. Not an alien or mutant or super powered (not counting the five minutes he was mega shredder in the second movie)and he was still intimidating!! He felt like a scary legitimate threat!! Very good.

36 Which character do you have the hardest time writing/drawing?

Honestly I have a hard time drawing any of the rise turtles. It's mostly their platoon that I cant get right lol. Everyone else has a fairly flat and smooth platoon. Rise boys have this bumpy angled chests and it throws me off lol Also sometimes the human characters are hard to draw after just drawing the turtles for a while lol.

I've only written one thing so far, and it was for rise, funnily enough. It wasnt too hard for them. But writing donnie was a little hard for me because he's smart, way smarter than me, so it was hard to come up with things for him to say that sounded in character and not just like technobable.

(Actually writing any Don is hard to make him sound convincingly smart, because I am not that smart lol)
