1. what’s your favorite iteration/version?

2003. rise is also a good contender but it got cut short (i’m confident if rise got at least 3 seasons, they would have tied). ‘03 is the one i write and draw for the most, even more than my own version.

12. do you have an OC?

i have several! the main 3 are Brooklyn, Tomatillo, and T’Ytian. i also have Finn and Lilith.

i’m still in the design phase of Lilith so i have nothing to show right now, but she’s a rockstar :]

as a quick 1 sentence summary of who each of them are:

Finn: shark therapist born in a mafia family.

T’Ytian: young salamandrian with the personality of a golden retriever.

Tomatillo: sassy softshell turtle who’s basically the embodiment of my anxiety.

Brooklyn: awkward lonely nerd girl who is trying so hard to be hinged*

Lilith: rockstar werewolf!

tonight i’m thinking about how lonely the turtles would be.

how they grew up knowing that humanity would see them as monsters from the movies and comics they could get their hands on. how splinter would tell them “you must never harm them. they fear what they do not understand. they merely seek to keep themselves safe.”

how they probably snuck peeks at the surface to see what humanity was up to. they learn more games by watching from the crack between the pavement and the manhole cover. watching as a couple kids kick around a ball or can or hacky sack.

the shrieks of startled humans echo in their minds each time they think of reaching out again. and even now, after starting to help stop crime, the criminals call them monster or freak. they try to return someone’s stolen wallet and get smacked. they save a cat stuck in a tree for a little girl and she runs away inside.

there’s a couple humans who don’t freak out. there’s a couple humans who they manage to befriend.

but the world is so large. untouchable.

they instinctively shrink back when people pass. good if you’re a ninja. not so good if you’re meant to stop these bad guys.

and then, suddenly, these rules they’ve known all their lives dissolve. they’re in the future. no one bats an eye.

they get weird looks for darting back into the shadows as they walk along the street. people side eye them if they hesitate to step into the light. they’re told off by peace keepers to stop jumping across rooftops, that’s what the street is for.

so they learn. they adapt. they manage to quell the tremble as they step into the light. no one asks “what… are you?” in that incredulous voice anymore. no one bats an eye. they can wave and smile to people on the street. introduce themselves. make friends. the loneliness grows quieter. maybe even disappears.

and it gets ripped away.

back to the shadows. back to their nicknames. monster. freak. abomination.

back to humanity hunting them.

“you must never harm them. they fear what they do not understand. they merely seek to keep themselves safe.”

“but they can understand, if they only tried. we’ve seen it!”

how frustrating this would be.

back to the loneliness

ok i finished tales of the tmnt. i really like the whole “[turtle] is telling a story” format for season 2 that’s like… maybe canon, maybe not? that was fun. they also just have a lot of fun, fresh takes.

finally getting around to watching tales of the tmnt

rewatched mutant mayhem and realized that i actually am neutral on the whole “turtle has a crush on a human” idea im just not convinced they’d think any human is attractive up front

like if they get to know the human and develop a crush based on personality? i can see it. but seeing the human and immediately saying they’re “beautiful” is just. off to me.

YES they watch enough tv to know what an “attractive” human should look like but. maybe im projecting my aceness here. conventionally attractive humans are just ok ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ who gives a fuck

anyway that is my two cents

i am filled with a sudden love for all the girls in tmnt. april, karai, tang-shen, angel, renet, venus, big mama, irma, alopex, jennika, shadow, lilith… i hope all future tmnt iterations treat u right
