         THE EARTH MOTHER despises questions like these. one could argue she despises all questions on account of her reclusive nature, but it is questions that pertain to more personal matters that irritate her the most. her caprice, however, seems only to simmer at a low boil -- not enough to punish the other. instead she keeps her features frigidly neutral as she squares her shoulders, not even deigning to look at her companion.

           a rude gesture, but really persephone is better off without that piercing gaze trained directly at her.

           ‘ sixteen, in earth years. ’ she could be speaking of the weather her voice is so flat. ‘ i destroyed an entire ship and its crew with one of my storms. not here, mind you. before i created this earth, when i commanded moons and asteroids at my hand. ’

Nico’s throat bobbed once as he managed to swallow, doing his best to summon moisture to his lips and desperately failing. Just like his father, something about the mere presence of the goddess reeked of death-- a strange, earthy mustiness in the air, the silence of a final breath, the sudden to simply and finally sleep--the sensation dragged at his heels as he slowly turned to face her. Maybe this was what others said he made them think about death. Well, whatever Nico did was nothing compared to this.

“Yes, your Majesty,” Nico replied carefully, voice as polite as he could manage, the hairs rising on the back of his neck. “I only meant... the living are able to do things. The dead are just done.”

It took me way too long to realize “sb” means “sideblog”.

“What can I say? I’ve got more than the average reverence for ghosts.” Dio laughs and offers Persephone a rare, real smile—the kind that isn’t perfect or beautiful but is no less than beatific. He doesn’t enjoy the company of other gods, usually, but there have always been exceptions: even un-deified, for all she is and represents Dio is genuinely reverent. Death is a sacred and glorious thing. Few gods have tasted it so intimately as him.

Dio pulls out a wood chair and gestures for her to sit down in it. The theater around them is uncomfortably empty, lit only by the smattering of candles on the table and the last rays of sunlight, the bright face of the sun having already dipped out of view. He scoots her chair in once she’d seated and seats himself opposite, producing a menu as if from nowhere.

“Personally, I recommend the wine. Anything else we’re going to have to wait on, water included.” He smiles again but this time—it’s charming again. Less genuine, not touching his eyes. Back to business. He only owes Persephone-as-martyr so much. “I’ve got a big ask, and I’d rather you were less than sober when I ask it. Full disclosure.”

"They were a gift, I am simply keeping them safe... though not safe enough if you were able to find them." He frowns a little, more upset with himself than anything.

"nothing, preferably." zeus could not get the words out fast enough, eager to set a very clear precedent. they wrapped their fingers around a frosted glass, holding a delicious margarita that was perfect for the warm weather - though it was clear that, despite how casual the beverages and laid back the circumstances of their meeting may have been, something was always lying in wait to be brought up where zeus was concerned. "and by that, i mean, if you are cross, i wish to be nowhere in your vicinity. i've heard a thing or two about your temper. i say that with utmost respect, naturally."

zeus held the glass aloft, smiling. "though, if you are cross with someone else, then i suppose calling me an accomplice in solving the problem would be fine, too. so which is it? are you angry with me, and should i leave? or are we planning some conflict resolution and/or revenge this afternoon?"

"you and hades?" zeus asked skeptically, refusing to believe for even a second that hades had contributed to the baking of this cake. still, they appreciated the gesture all the same, and eventually relented long enough to offer persephone a wide smile. "well, regardless, this looks amazing. thank you. and... thank hades too."

Hermes sees Persephone at the side of the dance floor without a date. Oh no, that wouldn't do! Not when the music was so good and the atmosphere was so bubbly. He could hardly keep still himself, though he had only just finished a dance with Terpsichore. Having drained his glass of remaining nectar, Hermes handed it off to a servant and weaved his way around the edge of the dance floor to her.

"What are you doing standing here! The music is too good to ignore, you must dance. With me if you'd like. Formality doesn't mean we can't enjoy ourselves." He offers out a hand to her to hold if she wanted to join him in a jaunty dance or two. They could hold hands and dance side-by-side. Lord Hades was no doubt about somewhere, and he hardly wanted to piss him off by dancing too closely with her.

part of him is shocked in the manner of which his mother scolds him, in some way, zagreus is certain that he has overstepped a boundary. perhaps he had expressed himself too much on the disdain he holds for his father and how all that he’s endured had left him bitter and angry with the lord of the underworld. he knows his mother loves hades more than words could describe, sometimes he’s wondered how and why, but as he has loved before  (  and unsure if he’d love again  ), love is fickle, and love is often overwhelming and blinding. his utter refusal at being amongst kin when mentioned sparked that.
