so now everyone has to wear anything to cover their nose and mouth when going outside in my country and here I am, hard of hearing that needs to lip read, sitting uncomfortable at home being afraid to go outside, because I have no idea whether people are talking or not.

and now I just realised that in this situation I'm not hard of hearing anymore. now I'm 100% deaf.

Whenever there's a Deaf issue going on, I see SO MANY ignorant hearing people acting all high and mighty because they can hear and they assume they are always right.

They say some such an ignorant things such as,

"Deaf people should not be allowed to drive."

"Deaf people shouldn't have a kid"

"I won't say Deaf, I will call you Handicapped / Hearing impaired."

"Sign language are sloppy ghetto gestures, so therefore I am teaching my daughter to speak."

"Deaf people can't read and write. They have their helpers do the job for them."

"Deaf people always act entitled."

"You need to get your deafness cured NOW"

"Closed captioning is a joke, Deaf people can lip-read. They're being lazy"a

nd the endless list goes on...

And if an actual Deaf person come in to attempt to educate those same ignorant hearing people, it seem like almost 100% of the time, Deaf person would get a pretty bad backlash by them.

It is very frustrating when they just... won't acknowledge your knowledge and experience in attempt to change their flawed prejudice and idea of us. Often, I just want to kick them off of their high horse SO they can check their hearing privilege before they spew out something incredibly ignorant and invalidating about us Deaf people.

[VENT] Oo sorry, my Deafness has made me a b*tch.   Some shit I have to deal with other people from my art college, some students are just unbelievable with what they do and say about me. Spreading harmful and false information about me just like that. Ho-hum. I have every rights to be grumpy if there's some kids pulling this off and actually tried to provoke me so people will favor to their side.

So exhausting. I don't even have any "residual hearing" part AT ALL. When you get frustrated with me (or other deaf people) think about how frustrating it is for US, too. 😘

deaf problem #3746

I can't lipread English for the life. I can lipread my mother language Czech, of course, I can lipread French which I've been studying four years, but I can't the hell lipread English which I've been studying for twelve years. And it's so frustrating because English is very important nowadays.

LOL at the Captioncall employees freaking out upon noticing in their system (months late) that we disconnected our landline since 90% of it was spam and naturally telling us to get back in touch with them to reconnect it. 

BY PHONE. Because clearly they noted the phone was for the hard of hearing and no mention of deaf anywhere in that email LOLOLOLOL. And that means you can call. So you can respond orally like a “normal” person how cool is THAT.

Well, thanks, but no thanks. We don’t have a working landline, so calling isn’t going to help. And I’m not using my cell phone. I’ll probably email them back later, for the bazillionth time because I keep getting different people in the system trying to contact me and clearly they don’t make a note of who contacted me before, to kindly stop sending these messages because I am well aware the captioned phone is disconnected and no, we can’t get it back up and quite frankly the lag was horrendous and didn’t help my job interviews.

The word "deaf" gets autocorrected to "dead," the majority of the time, texting.
