Back to school
This means new interpreters, new professors with different views on how to make accomodations. A lot of extra energy spent on making it work!
Also, new fun classes, classes I got to choose more freely and not just mandatory stuff, less basic and more hands on knowledge. Really excited to ger started on those!
I feel like I’m losing it
Everyday I turn my hearing aids up a little louder, try a little harder to pay attention but I’m at my wits end!!
My class mates sit and talk all class long and where I know I can’t expect everyone to not talk for a 3 hour long lecture, but so incredibly frustrated that I can’t hear what the teacher is saying at the front of the room because it’s garbled with the 63 voices behind me.
I’m so angry I want I to cry- I’m trying so hard to battle every barrier with grace and ease but sometimes you need a hot bath, a good cry and to retract the lecture to yourself
I NEED SOME HELP!
Hey everyone! So most of you, especially if you’ve been following me forever, have heard me complaining about how tough school is. You’ve probably heard me talk about studying anthropology, and how much I love it, and how hard I have been working to keep up grades and actually learn things.
This semester, I have had the amazing opportunity to apply for an internship at Texas State University in San Marcos. The internship would entail working with the human decomposition research facility at the Forensic Anthropology Center, assisting with cleaning and cataloguing remains, and otherwise assisting alongside Operation Identification (though not actually being involved in identification yet). I haven’t been notified of my acceptance yet, but my chances are apparently very good. This internship involves going to Texas for a month and this is where I need some help. As I’ll be spending a whole month in Texas, I need a little help covering the costs of having a place to stay and having gas money and any other little associated costs. I’m trying to be as proactive as possible so that I don’t find myself stuck when I get there.
One of the lovely girls in my osteology course has set up a YouCaring for me in order to get some help in being able to attend this amazing opportunity to grow and expand my knowledge, gain more experience on my CV and resume, and get my foot in the door with my dream school for grad school.

Good Experience!
My anthropology professor for the semester does video powerpoint combined lectures online, where he has prerecorded himself speaking while the video just shows his powerpoint. That’s cool, because it helps students be able to jot down main points and fill in as he talks.
However, most professors don’t know how or don’t think to caption their video lectures until they have a d/Deaf/HoH student. I’m that student for this guy.
So he’s been trying to get the DHH center to caption his videos for about 2 weeks now? And he’s having a hard time getting things done with them and doesn’t want me to fall behind a lot so he’s scheduled a meeting with me and the DHH center’s main lady who coordinates all the services!!!
This is so sweet because he could have just let me drown in all the work and just been like, “I can’t help you bc I don’t know anything about captioning” but he’s actually being helpful so hooray for that guy!!!
Today we got a programming exercise where we have to create code to play a song. This i used every year in this class ( with different music so we can't cheat). After class I approached the professor to ask how I was supposed to know if I got the song right since I can't hear it.
" oh, sorry, I didn't think of that" he said and I was expecting the sigh and annoyed face that is far too common when asking for accomodations. Instead he lit up and said I could get the notes animated. Half an hour later he emailed me code for the animation to add to my program so now I can get started along with everyone else in the class.
This is why I LOVE engineering. Seeing solutions, posibilities instead of obstacles!
Definition of cringe
New advanced class starting.
Add new interpreters with no experience in technical language and a slightly undercaffeinated student aka me.
The result is a hilarious disaster. Didn't learn much but it was the most amusing ( and parrtly frustrating ) lecture ever. At some point a felt like I really got to feel the definition of a cringe moment.
