You’re very sweet for asking, thank you. I wrote up some of the details here. It’s only been a couple of days since I found out, so I’m still in that phase where I’m kind of sitting and looking around going, “Right. Cancer. Okay, this is a thing.”

The excellent news is my prognosis is about as good as it’s possible to get. Endometrial cancer is treatable and we caught it early. Most likely my treatment will just mean a hysterectomy, which I was already lobbying for because fibroids are a pain (literally!). In most cases no chemo or radiation is needed. 

Still... I mean, ‘cancer’ is a scary word, you know? And I’m already dealing with insurance shenanigans, so this is promising to be fun. 

I have a wonderful local support network coming into place, but if I need help from a wider range, I’ll definitely ask. I have a feeling this entire experience is going to be a lesson in me learning how to ask for help without it having to be a crisis.

sunflower: if there was a door that went to a city that was a good representation of you, what city would it be and would you go through the door?idk if it’s a city that exists somewhere, but i think it would be a place that a little more urban than suburban in terms of walkability, but with decent gardens or yards behind the houses and apartment buildings and big kitchens that looked out onto the street where you could always smell food being cooked. there would be stoops or porches to sit on, and restaurants would be open late (many 24 hours) with tables outside that had heaters to keep off the chill and fans to keep air moving when it was hot (plus shade, obviously). there would be wide sidewalks for strolling but it would also be accessible by car. the weather would be a lot like it is here: snow and extreme heat would be rare, and though the temperature might vary through the day it’s fairly mild. ALSO it’s very affordable to live here!! and there’s a basic universal income and universal healthcare. great place!! if this sounds like where you live, please tell me bc YES i would go through that door!!!!

watercolour: talk about something someone you are interested in can do that never fails to make you find them attractive? split a bill several ways without a calculator. navigate by merely looking at a map and not using directions.basically doing logistical stuff isn’t easy for me and so i find it sexy and fascinating.  

pine: if you could only smell one scent for the rest of your life, what would it be? this is a nightmare question i cannot answer it. i like so many smells, from cooking onions to my dog’s head and certain friends and...so much else. i thought about the repercussions of this question and was torn between what would be worse: my nose only recognizing one smell such that EVERYTHING took on that single scent (is the chicken bad? idk man it smells like christmas tree needles pinched fresh off the tree) or everything else being odorless, my nose constantly searching for something, anything to attach to experiences and never finding it unless it was my one single scent, the smell of damp forest after a day of rain. 

either way it’s too sad. i couldn’t give up taste either :P

Years later, fate throws them together again.

Review: John and Sherlock start off on the wrong foot, which results in some hilarity, but it isnt until years later when the Yard needs an interpreter do they meet again. This meeting goes better than their first. This fic is very sweet and I appreciated that the signing was described in the text, mimicking John's learning of all the different signs (and I could visualize the scene better). The funny beginning coupled with the dating and getting-to-know-you atmosphere of the second part makes this fic a good read.
