this might be unpopular but I really enjoyed dean/amara
there are valid criticisms about that arc but mostly people are just upset that amara wasnt misha colins in a wig and a trenchcoat (nothing to say to them)
or they don't understand the fundamentals of what amara represented
amara wasn't this evil that was seeking to destroy god's creation. she genuinely saw the flaws in god's design and presented another solution. and it was a solution that was accepted by many people. some would choose to do away with feeling joy if it meant they would also feel no pain.
she also wasn't trying to lure dean into her cold wet evil lair. she was one with dean as the mark and knew he had a desire to feel nothing. precedence for this was set in season 5 when famine told dean he was empty of desires. for people who don't presently have the capacity to deal with various pressing issues, shutting down their emotions allows them to compartmentalise and focus on what they can fix Now.
she saw dean as the one who gave the gift of freedom and she wanted to gift him with what she had.
the essence of her arc can be "dean have you tried taking this eternal lexapro"
