I'm suddenly seeing articles everywhere about how "Hasan Piker is the left's Joe Rogan" and I think they are mostly right, in that Hasanim too is a dumb motherfucker who noone should listen to. Like the dude hates actual Nazis and has a theoretical grasp of some left talking points, but that's about it as far as any redeeming qualities go. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the debatebros are the lowest form of leftist life, even most tumblerinas have nothing to learn from them.

It's crazy how people will call Charlie Kirk some debating guru mastermind, and then you watch any one of his debates and it's just

There's a reason this 30 year old ONLY 'debated' teenagers in school who didn't have the years of experience he had. There's a reason he only had one or two debates against an educated opposition, and even then, they were still almost all at colleges against teenage law students. Every single thing he ever stood for could easily be proven wrong if he was debating literally anyone with the kind of experience he had.

That being said, he wasn't even that good of a debater. He just knew how to work the crowd. That was the only thing he was ever good at; saying something insane to rile up the crowd around him to drown out and demoralize his opponent, when he would inevitably be on the verge of getting his ass handed to him.

He was a content creator who got millions of views on YouTube off of saying outrageous things. Nothing more. Once MAGA dies out in the next few years - a decade max - people will start to see that; what Charlie Kirk ACTUALLY stood for and the things he said, every single October 14th without all the fake purity that MAGA tries to paint on him.

I don't think MAGA realizes the mistake they made by making his birthday a national day of remembrance. 2 October 14ths between now and the midterms, and 4 total before the 2028 election. Every single October 14th from now until it's inevitably removed will be a day his terrible quotes get dug up, and MAGA will have to defend every single one to centrist voters.

Today was fun.

As I said before, I am that rare species of autistic person, who is an extrovert. And after being kinda stuck at home due to being sick, I finally was out and about today again. First at a protest. Than at one TTRPG group, and then at another TTRPG group.

But man, highlight of my day were actually the right wing boys.

See, we kinda messed up when planning the protest today, because literally the two biggest left wing groups in the area had other stuff going on and could not be there, so we were like... 20 people there, maybe. And some young members of the AfD (German right wing party) showed up, apparently because they were having beef with folks from one leftist activist group, who however were not part of the protest today.

Given that they did not have active beef with any other group, they were surprisingly civil. And given, too, that nobody was there, we kinda gave into the temptation to engage with them. And I actually would go so far to say, that from this evolved a somewhat fruitful discussion.

Now, mind you, they first did not say, from which group they were, though we kinda clocked them instantly, because you learn this stuff.

And so three of us started kinda debating them. Which did not go over too badly, given that the three AfD youngsters were fairly young and as so many young right wingers are, not very well read. However, we you see that we actually did reach then in some regard, because in regards to refugees they started to actually concede points. Which was when the topic was then switched over to queerness. On: "Well, but also I am a Christian, and the bible says being gay is wrong."

You should have seen me, realizing I had an excuse to info dump bible facts onto people. I basically went like this:

Now, mind you, talking to the boy, I could at least confirm that yes, he was a member of the local perish he claimed to be and clearly was active in the perish - a lot more active than most youngsters at the age would be. (He is from the same perish my boss attends. Hence I could confirm it.) So, like, it was not even your typical "I will claim Christianity, because you cannot attack religion".

However, I spent half of this year so far hyperfixating on the history of the bible - added to the fact that due to my upbringing I managed to beat a bishop (!!!) at a bible quiz when I was a teeanger. It is kinda hard to beat me on bible facts if you are not actually doing academic grade bible studies.

I will give the boy this, still. He actually did listen. Obviously on religious stuff, he did not easily concede points, but kinda went through the best of supposedly queerphobic bible passages. Starting with Paul ("Okay, why would we listen to Paul, he wasn't a prophet?"), going to some vague Jesus stuff ("Actually, the full context of this is quite the opposite") and then old testament.

Well, we ended on me doing religious historical context. How did this passage came to be and what not. Which clearly did hit a sore point. (Again, I am giving him credit, because the one point he did concede was him having wondered about how missonary work fit with what Jesus said, and also him having wondered about Jesus going explicitly "I am here for the Jews, nobody else.")

The sore point then led to: "Okay, but if that is true, why do so many people believe it?"

We: "Because people threatened them with violence to get them to convert?"

Let's just say, I then got to talk about colonial history.

All in all, I had a blast.

And while the two others left after a while, this kid actually stayed to talk to me for a good two and a half hours. In fact in the end of the entire thing he thanked me and one of my buddies for being respectful with him.

So yeah, ironically this was kinda one of the highlights of my day. Partly because I could just go on for 45 minutes on bible facts, but partly too because it was actually a constructive discussion.

Though it also got us thinking. Because like 8 years ago, there was actually a public political discussion space once a month in my city, which closed down after a certain... incident. My city again is the city in Germany with the least Neonazi problem. But due to the breakdown of those moderated spaces, most of the time leftists and right wing folks meet is on demonstrations - which obviously do normally not make for a good place to have conversations.

And while I know a lot of folks do not agree, I generally think that as long as the environment is somewhat controlled, it actually can work to talk with people.

Debate has become so fucking pointless at least to me. What is the point anymore? We're really gonna engage with people that are willfully ignorant so they can make bad faith arguments based on misinformation? And for the intellectually elitist debate bros that thrive on one upping these people, congratulations you confused an idiot, NOW WHAT? Because at the end of the day nothing got done and your opposition walked away with their ignorance still intact. If anything it's a distraction from real work and real discourse.
