It was years since they last met. Years. Years since he had convinced her and her motley pirate crew to help him in a wild treasure hunt. Years since he managed to steal the treasure and backstab them because they could backstab him. Now he was a sailor. Roaming the seas. Exploring the world. A free man.
So it was of very big surprise that he should encounter him alone in one of the many islands he made his ‘home base’. Ever clad in red but with a different kind of spark in her eye, it was hard not to hold back the feelings of anger and hurt. But his body was singing a different tune when, in his efforts to stop himself fro punching her, he instead kissed her.
Just as quickly as he kissed her, he pulled back. Confusion and curiosity filled his mind, and just as quickly the anger faded. He couldn’t stay angry in this state. “I-I obviously did not meant it.” He snarled as he wiped his mouth. “But what are you doing here?”

Ooooh! Ooooh! Let me add to this! Like, because of his red hair, he was considered an ‘ill omen’ when he became a naval officer (A real sailor superstition apparently according to that wonderful google) so he tried to disguise it by making his hair brown. Of course, it didn’t work but he tried.
At one point he tried to cut it but to little avail. And he even considered using clothing dye to change his hair colour permanently, despite the risk of well losing all your hair. I can imagine that when he inevitably removes himself from the royal family, he’ll mark it by a change of appearance, including a drastic hair cut. Just for the symbolism.
