Overwatch AU Prince Hans

“If only they know I’m not as I appear to be.”

Biography:

Real name: Hans Gunnar Frederik Westergaard, age: 23

Occupation: Prince of Denmark (formerly), Navy Commander (formerly)

Base of Operations: Copenhagen, Denmark (formerly)

Affiliation: Royal family of Denmark (formerly), Danish navy(formerly),

Background:

Before his birth, the nation of Denmark was plagued with the Omnics but the aggressive counterattack led by its King alongside the actions of Overwatch made Denmark one of the first nations to find peace after the Omnic Crisis. This also left Hans with a legacy he could never live up to.

For all his life he was shunned by his family for being ‘peculiar’. Unlike his twelve older brothers, noted for their strength and courage, Hans chose the path of manipulation and deception. But the endless ridicule and ignorance of his father left him with a hole, which he feels he can fill with his father’s acceptance. That acceptance never came even after he joined the navy under the king’s wishes and rose to the rank of Commander.

After an international incident with Norway had left Hans branded a criminal, the family was all too happy to incarcerate Hans but he had enough. Breaking out of his asylum, taking with him the prototype weaponry meant for the next generation of spies, Hans left Denmark. In doing so, he has exiled himself not only from the nation but from his royal family and whatever good standing he still had. Hans was no longer a prince.

Hans now travels the world aboard the KDM Sitron, waiting for a chance to prove to the world he is a hero. Even if his intentions for saving people are anything but noble and kind and his methods dastardly and wicked.

Gameplay notes:

Hans’ basic role in my idea is that of the assassin. Players are encouraged to be sneaky and calculate when and where to strike.

Having no evasive skills and lower mobility than the rest of the Offense characters, Hans won’t be able to escape ambushes as easily.

All of Hans’ abilities have long cooldowns. Use them wisely and carefully.

There is a short gap when Hans is switching modes on his weapon. Hans can still move however when he is switching so if you are under fire, it is best to switch behind cover if possible.

Though the morph rifle has the ability to shoot at long-range, it is better to keep it for mid-range as it is unaccurate.

The morph blade is suited for close-range combat only. It is at its best when used in conjunction with any of his abilities as they allow him to move in unpredictable ways.

If an enemy widowmaker uses Infrasight or an enemy Hanzo uses Sonic Arrow, Invisibility cloak is canceled and cannot be used until the effect of the ability is worn off.

With Invisibility cloak, turrets won’t be able to detect Hans and will not shoot him. Use this to try and get behind enemy turrets and knock them down before they can retaliate.

Your health bar and name will be hidden while Invisibility cloak is active. However, a faint outline of you (blue or red depending on which team you’re on) can be seen by friends and enemies alike. A single hit will deactivate the cloak. Be sure to use it where the enemies can’t see you and quickly deactivate it.

Reflector only lasts 5 hits and returns only 50% of the damage taken to the attacker. Enemies with a high rate of fire will get damaged very little with this ability.

Reflector is best used for certain ultimates like McCree’s Deadeye or Bastion’s Configuration: Tank which are powerful, single-shot attacks. In a pinch, it can also be used on low-health enemies or as a suicide attack.

Hans’ ultimate, Mirror image, the clone only attacks when Hans is attacking, mimicking his movements and weapon mode. The clone also only attacks the character that Hans is attacking. In short, if you get stuck in a trap or get frozen by Mei, your clone won’t attack despite not being affected.

With Mirror Image, the clone does not take damage while it is active and there is no way for the enemy to deactivate it except for when its duration runs out or the death of Hans. Use with caution.

Number generated: 3—After months of resisting the urges, my muse can’t resist the allure of yours any longer and pins them to the wall with a passionate kiss.

Did she ever really understand the impact of her actions? No, he decided. She couldn’t have known. Not how she was behaving.

Hans succeeded in his task, if partially. Queen Elsa was alive. Princess Anna was alive. And through the power of sisterly love (he could almost vomit at the thought), the winter was gone and he was back with his betrothed. Even if it meant that, as a result of her adventure, she was not quite as prepared anymore to marry so soon. Suited him fine so long as it did happen in the future.

She was always rather impulsive so her flirting usually followed suit but recently the flirting morphed from innocent to ‘not quite so innocent’. And it was driving him insane. He was sure she didn’t want to, that she wasn’t aware of her actions but come on! There was no way he could escape it. So it was on one evening, when the sun was setting and the two were alone that he acted.

“Never,” he said with a wicked grin. “tempt me into doing something.”

Number generated: 6—Our muses haven’t seen each other in ages. When they reunite, my muse is so overcome with emotion that they kiss yours, for the first time.

It was years since they last met. Years. Years since he had convinced her and her motley pirate crew to help him in a wild treasure hunt. Years since he managed to steal the treasure and backstab them because they could backstab him. Now he was a sailor. Roaming the seas. Exploring the world. A free man.

So it was of very big surprise that he should encounter him alone in one of the many islands he made his ‘home base’. Ever clad in red but with a different kind of spark in her eye, it was hard not to hold back the feelings of anger and hurt. But his body was singing a different tune when, in his efforts to stop himself fro punching her, he instead kissed her.

Just as quickly as he kissed her, he pulled back. Confusion and curiosity filled his mind, and just as quickly the anger faded. He couldn’t stay angry in this state. “I-I obviously did not meant it.” He snarled as he wiped his mouth. “But what are you doing here?”

She doesn’t recognise me? His eyes widened in surprise initially but then a new look of realisation occured to him. She doesn’t recognise me! I-I can start again! I can…I can.

He slapped himself in his stupidity. Yes, she didn’t recognise him. But that doesn’t mean anything when your time is limited and the woman more cautious. It wasn’t like she could romance her again, she was already dating someone.

With a clearing of his throat and a flick of his mask, he spoke. “I’ve, er, only known you by reputation, princess.” Purposely he made his voice pitched lower than normal. “You must have me mistaken for someone else.”

With furrowed brows and quivering lips, the young princess tried desperately to figure out the face behind the beaded mask.

His voice sounded AWFULLY familiar and the way he held himself set off a flicker in her mind.

Clearing her throat, Anna bunched her dress in her fists awkwardly.

“My....name? Er....” Shoot. I need a good name. Urgh, something unassuming. Something normal. But little came into his mind. And as tempting as it was to try and steal someone else’s name, he doubted the lie could last long if the person should appear. Knowing his luck, it just might happen.

So that left coming up with a name. Something normal but at the same time not something too close to a person’s name. Something that won’t make her find him if she crosschecked the list.

“I am......Mr. Andersen, your highness. But if you prefer, I go by H.C.” OK. You dug the pit. Now try and get out of it again. “Um...would you—I know this sounds rather rude of me—but um....perhaps you’d like some...food?” He said, awkwardly gesturing to the table.

Arrest him. The very words he had been so worried about, the ones he hoped will never come out. And yet here he was, motionless as the guards roughly grabbed his arms, expressionless as he was led to their dungeons. Oh, it was a sick, twisted fate he was resigning himself to.

And yet there was a lightness in him. Was it because he was finally away from his brothers for good? Did he have some hidden death wish? No it couldn’t be either of those things. The only explanation he could find was that Elsa was fine. That Elsa was feeling OK. Well I have a whole day to ponder over why, don’t I he thought. A whole day in a cell, a death sentence just waiting to happen…why was he so strangely peaceful now? Now that he was all by himself?

Morning came and he did not have the answer. His face was just as expressionless as yesterday when Elsa had sentenced him. He was dragged to a room, in there he saw Elsa and the snow shoveller boyfriend of Anna’s. It’s no wonder that she wasn’t here but something inside of him was disappointed. He avoided eye contact with anyone in the room, looking down at the hard floor before him.

“I’m sure you’ve already decided my verdict now. Just say it. Let’s get this over and done with.”

Elsa hoped that morning would bring a change in him, not this farce he continued with. How does a man set on taking her life, leaving her sister to die alone in a dark room, become so desperate? Something wasn’t right and her confliction was apparent in the way she looked at him. A quizzical expression was framed by an arched brow and pursed lips.

“All that time you spent studying me and you still don’t know me. I don’t take helpless lives. It’s not my place to choose who lives and who dies, I’m not above God but don’t think for a moment that Kristoff won’t beat you to a pulp if you try anything. Now, if we have an understanding, please stand up. We’re taking a walk.”

It’s against her better judgment that she’s choosing mercy and there is a very good chance she will regret it. 

She doesn’t speak again until they were out of the small prison and the warm early morning sun caressed  their faces as they walked away from the waking kingdom’s center and into the woods. Less than a mile from the beaten path sat a cabin that’s been unused for some time.

”This was meant to serve as a sanctuary in times of war but it’s fallen into dilapidation over the decades. It needs repairing, a new roof, fresh seal in the wood before winter comes but it will make a good home for you while you’re here. As for work you’ll report to me for your daily work. I’ll give you four days and supplies to fix the cabin before I expect to see you again. Guards will be posted to watch you.”

What? That was all he could silently mumble as his eyes darted from the shack to Elsa. Then back to the shack once again. Well it’s certainly more than a fixer upper.

It was ironic how she made his job sound easy, like any one man could do that. But it was a far bigger job than she made it sound. The whole roof needed to be replaced, not just segments. The walls were crumbling with many many holes in them. And the floor was rotting too! He hadn’t even stepped INSIDE yet and already he was starting to wonder if maybe he’d prefer the death sentence.

But it’s mine... That was all it took. A place of his own, however temporary. Away from the poison that is family and politics. Away from decorum and prejudice. From deceit and betrayal. He couldn’t help it. A small smile morphed into a genuine chuckle, tears threatening to dispose the calm countenance that he had kept. But he just wiped them away. He now knew the reason for the lightness in his heart, why he could not help but laugh and cry in happiness.

He was one step closer. To freedom.

“Thank you. Truly.” He whispered. Though he was almost certain everyone now thought him crazy and foolish, he couldn’t bring himself to care.

Playing Overwatch so much

NO JOKE I AM LITERALLY DRAWING AN OVERWATCH AU COSTUME FOR HIM RIGHT THIS SECOND! So if ANYBODY is an Overwatch RPer or has a similar AU that could work with this, LET ME KNOW!

{ Hans always hated his red hair since it was such an indicator that he was really a Westerguard. As a kid he would try to dirty it as an act of defiance, only to be scolded about not looking "royal" from a maid or something. Appearances were everything to the family anyway. }

Ooooh! Ooooh! Let me add to this! Like, because of his red hair, he was considered an ‘ill omen’ when he became a naval officer (A real sailor superstition apparently according to that wonderful google) so he tried to disguise it by making his hair brown. Of course, it didn’t work but he tried.

At one point he tried to cut it but to little avail. And he even considered using clothing dye to change his hair colour permanently, despite the risk of well losing all your hair. I can imagine that when he inevitably removes himself from the royal family, he’ll mark it by a change of appearance, including a drastic hair cut. Just for the symbolism.
