Can we hear about Deckerpaw?

Deckerpaw, the secondary main character from Honorclan of the Agonypaw and Tranquilstorm story.

Deckerpaw was originally a kittypet named Decker. Born with a large litter of kittens and fostered by a human who later moved in with another human, who owned their own pet, Clue.

Decker was quite young but looked up to Clue terribly thinking he was such a cool cat, and considered him an older brother.

Clue, getting annoyed with the bombardment of these new kittens decided to run away from home. For whatever reason Decker followed after him.

Clue joined Honorclan after receiving an invitation, and didn't realize Decker followed him. Too little too late as he couldn't really take the kitten back or make him find his way back alone, so he was also taken in by Honorclan and made an apprentice.

Deckerpaw would be able a moon or two older than Agonypaw or Eveningpaw and start his apprenticeship a good bit before them.

Deckerpaw has been an apprentice for about a moon, given to Rubbervine as an apprentice. Deckerpaw really like Rubbervine and love getting to learn new things, but is struggling as Rubbervine is the most distractible cat. Often telling Deckerpaw to end training early and treat himself to fresh kill, or just asking the other warrior to take over his training for the day. Usually because Rubbervine wants to run off and spend time with Expressohop.

Deckerpaw already feels like he's behind due to not growing up in the clan like all the other apprentices, and now he doesn't even have a consistent mentor or training program.

The worst part is how often Rubbervine runs off and Deputy Batnose seems to show up to take over Deckerpaw's training, Deckerpaw feels guilty for not only bothering his deputy but as well as embarrassing Rubbervine by not being very skilled or even getting him in trouble by little Batnose find out. He didn't even tell anyone it was happening for the first few days of his training when it happened, but after letting it slip it seemed like him and Rubbervine were always paired with another group of mentor and apprentice almost like a fall back for when Rubbervine runs off so Deckerpaw isnt just left alone with no work.

Deckerpaw is being bounced between Looptail, who already is busy training Zincpaw or Stainspot who is busy training Rutabagapaw. Deckerpaw even nots that Stainspot, a usually very cheery and silly cat getting frustrated and openly upset about Rubbervine's behavior. Which Stainspot usually brings up to their littermate, Batnose.

The two cats comment in whispers that if things stay this way their going to have to make changes and Deckerpaw thinks about how his tummy feels like knots listening to them Greasestar and Batnose host a training session to watch the apprentices train in fighting. Deckerpaw is clearly as a disadvantage compared to Yampaw and Rutabagapaw who demolish Deckerpaw who is bigger than the other two and only a moon younger in training.

Batnose and Greasestar whisper together as they watch on, Deckerpaw feels the knots in his stomach again.

If he wasn't good enough would they make him leave? send him back to his old home with his human?

its the next morning while the apprentices share their kills, the apprentices point out Deckerpaw's unusually quite behavior. In walk Rubbervine and Expressohop, back from whatever night activities the two have run off to do.

Rubbervine and Expressohop split apart for now and Rubbervine comes over to ask Deckerpaw to go out on a patrol and some mild hunting training. However he's cut off as Batnose comes over and tells Rubbervine that Deckerpaw would no longer be his apprentice and will be transferred to Batnose for the remanded of his apprenticeship. Rubbervine tries to protest and ask if this is a joke, but Batnose is dry and simply walks past Rubbervine and out the camp, telling Decker to follow her.

Its this silent long agonizing second of Deckerpaw and Rubbervine looking at one another, a face of guilty looking to a face of confusion. Deckerpaw breaks eye contact, no longer able to look at the cat he once called his mentor, breaking past him and after Batnose

Some time has passed and Deckerpaw is now started training with Batnose and taking some days to train with the other apprentices hoping to catch on with their more advanced skills

Deckerpaw seems blissfully unaware how much worse he is at training compared to the other apprentices he seems to just be so happy to getting to go out and be with a mentor who seems to want to work with him

we see Rubbervine has started doing apprentice duties with the other apprentices such as cleaning out the dens. Greasestar mentioned this to be partially punishment for neglecting his duties as well as realizing, Rubbervine never was an apprentice himself. He joined the clan an adult and was just made a warrior, of course he didn't know how to train an apprentice, he never had to learn to be one himself. Deckerpaw overhears other cats in the camp saying they felt bad for him and how clumsy

his apprenticeship has been and how much it shows in his skills. Decker is trying really hard, working more than he's told when Batnose isnt around just to try and prove he's worthy of a mentor like her.

Deckerpaw is trying out fighting moves in the camp and fails a move while shy Yampaw executes it perfectly one of the warriors gives Deckerpaw a ‘don't worry champ your getting there’ and it just CRUSHES Deckerpaws spirits.

Deckerpaw begins to mop about, going as far to fake a stomach ache to stay in the medicine cats den with Rushwall. Rushwall seems to catch on that Deckerpaw only felt down emotionally and listens to him talk about his recent feelings.

the next day Deckerpaw is getting ready to go out with Batnose and see’s her and Rushwall talking. Rushwall gives Deckerpaw a smile as they pass and tells him ‘good luck’ Deckerpaw and Batnose are going out training and are being accompanied by Rubbervine today. Batnose says Rubbervine is joining them so he can see how being a mentor is done. Rubbervine seems to be struggling to keep up with their patrol and hunting Even Deckerpaw catches some prey on their hunt while Rubbervine turns up nothing.

Rubbervine tells Deckerpaw how impressed he is with him and his progress and comments that he didn’t realize there was so much to the apprentice ship. this small comment from his old mentor cheers up Deckerpaw a bit Back at camp Batnose and Deckerpaw eat together and talk about Rubbervine. Batnose says when Rubbervine joined Honorclan they just made him a warrior because he was too old to and already experienced enough, Batnose even ponders if outside joiners should have an apprenticeship despite age when joining from outside the clan

Deckerpaw sees the other apprentices are trying their best to cheer Deckerpaw on and help him with learning moves and skills he needs.

At the next full moon Deckerpaw is invited to the gathering. He had been to one the previous moon but was still very excited, he loved getting to meet new cats, especially the other apprentices, recalling meeting the Gloryclan apprentices about his age, Awepaw and Humidpaw. Humidpaw had been very friendly but seemed to become cliquish with Rotpaw of Loyalclan While Deckerpaw found himself spending the evening with Awepaw, chatting her ear off, the tom just sat there and listening the whole night, she was such a nice cat. Deckerpaw hoped to see her again.

And his wish would come true, spotting the Gloryclan apprentices entering the Docks where the Gathering is held, Humidpaw who would almost immediately wander over to the Loyalclan Apprentices to sit with Rotpaw while Awepaw stuck to the side of a grey she-cat with a face he didn't quite recognize. The new grey apprentice would introduce herself as Agonypaw, Awepaws cousin.

Awepaw would try to point out Eveningpaw of Loyalclan was here and that Deckerpaw should go introduce himself, as he's the big welcome party here. With how dry and snappy Awepaw is Deckerpaw almost thought the tom was telling him to go away, but Deckerpaw being as clueless as he isnt take her words at face value, but finding the loop hole. He brings Eveningpaw to them.

For the night Evening, Agony and Decker (also Awe who struggled to sneak away without Deckerpaw noticing and pulling her back into the conversation, because he's worried she's thinking she's interrupting or not welcome when it really is she's trying to get away from them)

that night they would sit and listening to tales of the old Gloryclan leader Prismstar and his old Deputy Daisynose.

The gathering ends and Deckerpaw returns to Honorclan. Some moons later Deckerpaw's training is going very well, he's catching up nicely and has even begun to try and patch things up with Rubbervine.

It seems to be going well enough that Batnose tells him he's ready to take his journey to the Cluster, a right of passage for every clan's apprentice.

Deckerpaw acts excited and promises to be ready to go when the time comes, but the moment she walks away Deckerpaw is poking questions on what on the stars green earth was the Cluster.

A bit funny to the other apprentices who are amazed no one's brought it up before, especially since both Yampaw and Rutabagapaw already went themselves.

The Cluster is Describe as long ago cats once ruled these lands, for many many moons, before they were driven out and new cats came to claim the land, once again these cats were driven out until something called a new group of cats back. Happening time and time again. In stories the thing that calls them back is sometimes a call of adventure, or a large rock gifted by the moon, or a pool made of dreams. Moons ago these lands were destroyed and drove out the old cats, until one day the stars themselves cried out for their destroyed home. their star lite tears falling down to earth and into the river that cut their land in three. That far up the river there's a waterfall were most of the tears lay and that cats that wish to be close to their clans history go to speak with them. These are stories that were told to the first cats who settled here moons ago and made the clans they know today.

Deckerpaw would awake to the morning of their travel, Rushwall, Greasestar and Deckerpaw three would take the journey up the creek to speak with the stars.

Greasestar makes conversation with Deckerpaw, asking how his training with Batnose is going, a lot of awkward filler talk. Until Greasestar mentions his own past as a kittypet and understanding how hard it can be in this position.

Deckerpaw asking his greasestar if he misses anything about his old life like his humans. Greasestar admits some times he misses the comforts of that life but is happy that the clans took him in when he was at his lowest. And having Yorkwish by his side the whole time has made things easier.

Deckerpaw thinks of Cluesplash and how he is happy to have his brother in the clan with him, but knows Cluesplash could take or leave the young tom.

As they reach the three way meeting point of all the streams, they run into Mutestar with her apprentice Eveningpaw and Medicine cat Softheart. They claim to also be taking their apprentice to the Cluster, and what a coincidence it is that they both chose to do this on the same night.

All the leader and medicine cats take lead continuing their journey, while whispering to one another. Deckerpaw and Eveningpaw fall to the back to talk to one another.

Deckerpaw ask if Eveningpaw is excited to be seeing the Cluster for their apprenticeship. Eveningpaw curls her tail in as a nervous twitch and glances away before agreeing to say she is happy that they both are going at the same time.

As they travel further the sun begins to set and the ground grows soft as they walk along the edge of the bank bordering Gloryclan. it is here they hear movement through the foliage, out from the bush comes Revelstar who seems surprised seeing the two leaders and their companions

To little surprise Revelstar is with their Medicine cat and daughter Algeasnout and apprentice Awepaw. Before they can even speak Greasepaw guesses if they too were taking their apprentice to the Cluster and has them join their up river party.

Awepaw steps out from her hiding spot nodding to mutestar and greasestar in respect. Deckerpaw heart warms seeing his dear friend Awepaw who in turn ignores the tabby toms greetings

They arrive at the Cluster by Moonrise. Coming to a soft small waterfall with large round rocks around the base, water drip and bouncing off. a soft cool air surrounded this place.

As the moon rose overhead they begin to notice small soft rocks seem to glow under moonlight like magic.

The apprentices watch their leaders wad into the water, sip from the stream before perching themselves onto the rocks and under the stream of the waterfall, telling the water flow down their pelts.

Their eyes look up to the moon, bright and round in the reflection of the white dot in the sky. Their silent, almost comatose like state. Eveningpaw sat on one side of the pool looking up at their white leader who's pelt shined bright in moonlight. her eyes seemed to be filled with worry.

Awepaw sat by Deckerpaw, closer than she ever seemed to want to before. It made Deckerpaw feel itchy and warm to have the tom so close. Was she always bigger than Decker? did she grow? Her fur was so soft and long, and the little bits of dead bugs in her coat? he new Gloryclan cats were one for accessorizing with flowers and such, was this Awepaw's way of showing off their personality? Decker wanted to ask, he wanted to know more-

before Deckerpaw's dopey brain could ramble on, Awepaw suddenly looks at Deckerpaw with a serious and concerning look in her face. Deckerpaw's Fur grows warm as the tom leans in so close to his space, before his words make his veins run dead cold

"I need to tell you a secret… I need your help. I think there's a traitor in Gloryclan"

Deckerpaw is astonished at Awepaws words, not only trusting him with a secret when it never seemed the tom liked anyone else but that there was danger in Gloryclan and Awepaw came to him for help?

the leaders awaken and leave the water, softheart and mutestar whisper to one another while the other two leaders walk silently to their apprentices

Awepaw stands to follow revelstar but not before whispering to deckerpaw to meet her at their border in two days time. Deckerpaw follows after Greasestar glancing back at Awepaw who has returned to acting like Decker doesn't exist the three groups travel almost silently, Eveningpaw walking with Mutestar away from the other apprentices and Awepaw at the back behind the wall that is Revelstar. Deckerpaw also makes note that all the leaders and medicine cat have completely dried now despite being submerged in water moments ago and their pelts smelt of fresh air and comforting aromas.

Deckerpaw returns home and rest, waiting for the time when he would meet Awepaw.

Deckerpaw awakes early the next morning, he can hear the soft murmurs and paw steps of cats returning in from the night patrols and hunting. Deckerpaw waits until its quieted down for a moment before sneaking out of camp.

Deckerpaw follows the river all the way to where their border meets Gloryclan, right where he can see the large growth of plants and herbs that was refereed to as the Garden.

Deckerpaw recalls the first time he saw Awepaw gathering herbs with their medicine cat, it had been the first day Deckerpaw had been taken out from the forest and the city to see the borders. Awepaw was so small that first time he saw her, especially compared to the massive medicine cat Wetfur she was with at the time, even her brother Humidpaw had been bigger than her.

thinking of Humidpaw he wondered where the tom was the other night at the cluster. From what he understood, usually apprentices who are made apprentices together tend to go together on this trip. He wonders if Humidpaw is alright, if his absence had anything to do with the ‘traitor’

as Deckerpaws thoughts become panicked Awepaw appears at the bank, Deckerpaw hurries over to greet Awepaw who tells the tom to hush and pulling him into the thick herb garden.

Awepaw explains that she thinks something wrong is happening in Gloryclan and that at the gathering she remembers overhearing the clan cats talk of a tom named Shriek who seemed to be wise and always knowing what's happening but is located in Honorclan

Deckerpaw has a moment feeling sad that Awepaw only asked for deckerpaws help because he is a Honorclan cat, but reassures himself because Awepaw still trusted him

Deckerpaw thinks for a moment, recalling older warriors talking about someone named Shriek, but he didn’t know where they lived. No matter, he was just going to have to play detective and try and figure the information out. He can start by trying to get some information out of one of his clanmates he overheard mention Shriek.

Awepaw and Decker begin their hunt into Honorclan territory for answers.

Deckerpaw begins to ask Awepaw why they think there's a traitor in Gloryclan, Awepaw says that her brother Humidpaw found Bittertoungs body, and had found a clump of fur in the teeth of Bittertounge that smelled of one of their warriors, the two assume it came from the cat that killed Bittertounge

All the cats claimed that it must have been rouges that had been scented in their territory that killed Bittertounge but there's no proof of this and with the fur found with Bittertounge their suspicious. But Humidpaw is too scared to tell anyone worried someone will be hurt and Awepaw chose to go against their asking and get help from outside sources.

they say maybe shriek can tell them of any rogues that had gone to Gloryclan or have been working with a Gloryclan cat

they enter the city

Awepaw is struggling with the loud noises and the busy streets and random alley cats walking about. Deckerpaw help Awepaw onto a roof to get them out of the way of the busy streets. Awepaw seems stressed by the city but Decker reassures that he’s gonna keep her safe

Deckerpaw notices a patrol heading their way and in a flash is down from the roof and to the road talking to them. Deckerpaw makes up some excuse about needing to meet Shriek, under Batnose's orders.

Deckerpaw returns with the information and leads Awepaw to Shrieks home. Awepaw apologizes for slowing them down by taking the roof route, it doesn't sound like Awepaw apologizes very often.

they climb up a fire escape to a window. As if waiting for them Shriek lazes on a pillow near the open window

Deckerpaw introduces himself and Awepaw goes straight to asking questions. Awepaw ask Shriek if there have been any alley cats or rouges entering Gloryclan or if anyone has been working with rogues here to hurt Gloryclan cats

Shriek says that no Rouges have been going to Gloryclan, no one has any reason to be going out to that mud hole. Awepaw is quiet before Shriek continues and says, however a Gloryclan cat has been visiting here, she doesn’t seem to be taking any rouges with her, just coming by and chatting and taking some of their left over rags and left over prey. He's never seen her himself but has heard from the local cats about her poking around often.

Awepaw thanks the cat and they leave. Deckerpaw questions if they got the information they need and Awepaw nods seeming to be unable to awnser with words. Their eyes wide and their fur on end.

she reveals that the fur they found, they thought it to Tranquilstorm but didn't have any proof to jump to this

Tranquilstorm killed Bittertounge

the two begin to head back toward Gloryclan when of all the things to happen, Tranquilstorm is spotted walking down the street

they hid and Deckerpaw follows Tranquilstorm from the roofs with Awepaw struggling to keep up

they see Tranquilstorm wander into an alley where some cats live, she collects a whole fish from some tom and chats for a bit. They can hear her say something about Agonypaw and ‘Grendel’. She gestures to her eye when she mentions Agonypaw.

Awepaw is panicked wondering what Tranquilstorm is planning

Deckerpaw blocks Awepaw and she tries to rush off, telling her that she doesn't have to go back, that its dangerous back at her home and that he knows Greasestar would understand if she just stayed here

Awepaw disagrees saying she must return home as she fears for her sibling and cousins safety and that they must know what she has learned. Deckerpaw heart tightens as Awepaw roughly pushes past him and hurries away alone.

Its been some time since Awepaw and Deckerpaw's time togeather in the city. His minds been racing, should he tell someone? who should he tell? would Awepaw want him to, was Awepaw safe? was he able to get back in time?

All the questions flooded his head everyday he could barely focus on training and working. He barely noticed when his clanmates were collecting their things to evacuate their campsite.

The nonstop rain had brought the river into their dens and now they were sheltering where they can in the city away from the rising water and city cats.

Deckerpaw is sat under a pigeon coop on the roof of a building along with Expressohop and Rubbervine

Expressohop and Rubbervine coddle each other, licking each others pelts dry were drips of water have fallen on them

Deckerpaw troubled thoughts are brought to an end as he’s greeted by Zincpaw and his older brother Cluesplash who say they have been sent out to scrounge for food and wanted to see if he wanted to join

Deckerpaw teases asking if it was Cluesplash’s idea to invite him, knowing full well Cluesplash still wasn't Deckerpaw’s biggest fan but is interrupted by Zincpaw who shyly tells him that she asked for him to join

their group picks through the usual spots with not much luck. while searching the city they pass the outskirts of the city were you can see out the empty field and rising river begin to overtake the grasslands.

Zincpaw begins to make commentary on Gloryclan and how neat their life is. Everytime she got to talk to Gloryclan cats like Jocundbounce and Pridebriar, names Deckerpaw recognizes as Agonypaws parents. Zinc goes on and on about all the unique things she found so interesting about Gloryclan.

Deckerpaw is quiet as he begins to think of Awepaw again, but then thinks of Tranquilstorm and her cold eyes

he awnser with a ‘yeah i guess there are some nice things in it… and i hope the storm ends soon.”

Zincpaw laughs at the awnser and says that Gloryclan lives in wetlands, a lil rain isn't going to hurt them. Deckerpaw thinks otherwise

upon arriving to the makeshift camp, Avenue is there raving about something to Expressohop and Rubbervine, clearly concerned. Deckerpaw gets closer and hears Avenue say that Yampaw and Rutagabapaw have gone missing. That they disappeared from the camp a while ago and that they only know that one of the warriors say they heard them talking about going down near the river before they disappeared

Its in an instant that Deckerpaw has taken off, followed by Cluesplash, Experessohop and Rubbervine who follow quick behind the dark tabby

It isnt long before they find Rutabagapaw, who unlike her usual peppy self is cowering under an overhanging rock from the rain and wind that has begun to pick up. they ask her were Yampaw has gone and she tells them shes at camp, that Rutabaga couldn't make it because the rain scared her too much.

Cluesplash comments that Yampaw was as skittish as it was that going that close to the water she might freeze up and be swept away. Expressohop and Rubbervine stay behind to comfort Rutabagapaw while Deckerpaw and Cluesplash run campwards

the two make it to camp not seeing Yampaw, they call out her name until she responds with an from the apprentices den. the two climb up the side of the rocky wall carefully making it to the hole in the wall that was the apprentices den. Yampaw is in there digging through the rocks and bedding frantically. the two tell her they have to leave NOW but she ignores them and keeps digging

Deckerpaw quietly walks over to her only the sound of the wind outside is heard. He ask her what she's looking for as her eyes light up as she finds what appears to be a small smooth black rock.

She curls it in close with her paw and says with a warmth to her voice ‘its Rutabagapaw’s lucky stone. She sleeps with it under her bedding for luck and she never lets anyone touch it. It’s very important to her and when she said she left it at camp and was worried the river might get high enough to sweep it out of the den she worried. They tried to make it to camp to get it but Rutabagapaw got too scared of the storm and Yampaw promised to keep going and get it for her. Rutabagapaw is important to her, and the things she loves and cherishes are important to her and the storm isnt scary enough to deter her’

Her words strike something in Deckerpaw's heart.

All of them make it back to camp and let Greasestar know everyone is ok. Greasesstar thinks and tells them that while what Rutabagapaw and Yampaw did was foolish, it was brave and noble they did this for each other. The same went for Deckerpaw. He tells them that he thinks that in this weather new warriors would be something hopefully for the clan to have

Yampaw is outwardly and loudly excited and congratulates Deckerpaw and thanks him.

Greasestar starts rounding up the cats from the other roofs to join for the ceremony at a large roofed area they could use a block over

Deckerpaw is excited but his heart is bothered as he begins to think more and more of Gloryclan

as the cats begin to gather and head to this covered area Deckerpaw sees two cats running toward them in the distance

its Awepaw and Humidpaw

Deckerpaw is happy to see, alive and well them but the fear in their eyes makes his blood run cold.

Honorclan cats around him freeze and stare. Halfway up the stairs to his warrior ceremony he is stopped by Awepaw

Awepaw tells him that Tranquilstorm took Agonypaw somewhere and they haven’t come back in a long time and she is worried and needs Deckerpaw with her. She needs his help

Deckerpaw looks back to the cats waiting for him for the ceremony and back to Awepaw

From her the events of the Turtled named Grendel occur, Decker, Aw and Humid all make it to Agonypaw in time to save her, giving Tranquilstorm just enough time to realize what she's doing is wrong and change her heart, taking the turtles killing bit instead and losing her tail while all the apprentices are saved when Eveningpaw rounds up Gloryclan.

Deckerpaw would return home and named a Warrior Deckerrush (name under consideration still not 100% sure,,)

Deckerpaw would later deal with his feelings for Awepaw pulling him toward her and being with her and his pull to stay in Honorclan, his home with his brother. i just imagine a short story about him dealing with his conflicting feelings, but ultimately following Awepaw to Gloryclan and living with her. the two would probably have hits and coincidently have them about the same time as Cluesplash and his mate.
