oh damn thanks for the corrections! I will update the post. a couple of people have said I’ve misgendered Faris, I think I listed Faris on the basis of just glancing at the wiki page until I saw any pronoun.

honestly in terms of inclusions I got so tired that I assumed I had them all without thoroughly checking. my rule for inclusion was pretty much 1. is it on the final fantasy wiki and 2. did it have “Final Fantasy” in the title in its original japanese release, I don’t actually know the ins and outs of what’s Final Fantasy and what isn’t

I studied CS but it was too hard so after I graduated I didn't even bother looking for a related job and only used my Japanese instead oops

ah, i’m sorry you found it too hard after putting so much work in! :( did you like it despite the difficulty or did you just get sick of the CS stuff entirely? translating is awesome anyway, though! i wanted to be a translator for a while in high school but i can just never get fluent in languages

There’s an x-kit extension that lets you give people nicknames, a lot of people use it to write name+pronouns but you could just as easily write why you followed someone, and you’d see it every post they make

dr who had a star whale forced to be a ship in "the beast below". some old sci fi novel I stopped reading has ghosts instead of ship computers steering as "eyes", "nose" and "ears".

The helmsman trope is pretty established in sci-fi. I think Neuromancer has something like that, there's Moya in Farscape, the fact that Voyager has bioneural gel packs that help it run.

There are the old problematic Anne McCaffrey novels that the fanoncruft "starship pals" novels are parodying. Also recently Ann Leckie's 'Ancillary Justice'/Imperial Radch series which are gr8.

ahh thanks, i'll definitely check some of these things out. i particularly love the spaceship ghosts and the Steersman who can't leave the ship, ughhhhhh.

i've tried to read Neuromancer multiple times and every time i haven't been able to make it past the first fucking page because the writing style bugs me too much :/
