You pandering to men will never make you any less of a woman.
sorry for posting terf anons on this blog y'all don't need to see this bullshit but i am fascinated by the implications of this statement.

are you under the impression that cis men who view me predominantly as a sexual object LIKE IT when i identify with masculinity? do you think i hold that absolutely ludicrous position despite my daily life proving it wrong?

Deeply Odd, by Dean Knootz
Deeply Odd opens with our fry cook leaving the cottage by the sea that he shares with Annamaria and Tim, to go buy clothes. Annamaria sees him off, hinting that this won't be a quick errand. And sure enough, Odd ends up in a confrontation with a trucker he calls The Rhinestone Cowboy because of his red and black flamboyant western outfit. He gets a vision from him, one of the Cowboy burning a group of children alive.
And so begins a road trip wherein Odd and a strange old lady driving a tank masquerading as a limo follow his psychic magnetism to stop this horrific act.
Guys, this book is weird, and also dull, and also irratating. This was the first Odd Thomas book that I listened to instead of reading it because I got half way through the words on the page book and was so annoyed and bored that I didn't want to continue, but I wanted to know what happened and how this was going to factor into Odd's story. So I got the audiobook with the idea that maybe it wouldn't be so boring if I could do something else while I finished it. It worked. It helps that the narrator for the books is amazing!
Where do I start?
Well, first Odd messes up a bank robbery, but only in passing so we never know what happens there.
Then he meets Edie, a lady in her 80's who talks a lot about being "smooth and blue" this is something she won't explain to Odd. Which instantly annoys me because of all the stuff that Annamaria won't explain to him, but both insist that they don't talk in riddles. The story seems to confuse gaslighting it's main character with being mysterious.
This lady has connections everywhere, seemingly made up of an underground revolutionary group whoes philosophy is a misunderstanding of Marlon Brando's famous line.
What are they resisting? What'd ya got? It seems like its supposed to be interpreted as this group is fighting injustice and evil, but to me, when Odd asks for more details and they don't give them, it just reads like they don't know what the fuck they're fighting, they just know they need a shit ton of wepons to do it. Cheerfully and joyfully bloodthirsty.
Then there are all the letters to the editor about the state of the world, how Christians are being persecuted in their own country, how environmental laws are hurting the planet, how everyone simply worships at the alter of fame and how no one enjoys the simple things in life. This from the psychic who has only consistently helped or interacted with the spirits of Sinatra, and Hitchcock for the last two books and continously quotes the most famous playwright in history.
And none of this is the weird part. What is the Cowboy up to? Human sacrifice for the purpose of calling up demons of course! And the highest offices in the land are in on it. They have some hellish abilities and things already, like the ability to become invisabke and travel between reality, and a demon like doppelganger that calls Odd "piglet" and wants his breath and the "sweet fruit at the end of it".
Since they have all of these high up officials that apparently worship Satan, you would think that this would be enough to slither chaos through the world. But no, they need to summon a big bad demon by sacrificing some kids. It all seems to be connected to the events that killed Stormy. You remember the characters who were depicted as pathetic play actors using Hollywood Satanism to dress up domestic terrorism? Nope they were legit and involved with this shadow society. Odd stops the plot and rescues the kids, of course, messing up a plan to release massive evil.
I'm sorry, but this plot is so stupid for a few reasons.
First is one that I can forgive because this is fiction.
Satanists are, as stand up Ryan Kelly puts it, atheists with flair, they don't try to summon demons at the cost of their souls because they don't believe in demons or souls. But, that isn't really compelling for storytelling (although I feel like this was the route it was going in the first book. That Odd's ability while God given, was grounded in God made natural science and the Satanists that killed Stormy were just regular humans who sucomed to evil that was all too human.) So the Hollywood demons and devils became our opposition. I find it silly, but fine.
Second, the idea of high up officials being a part of a society that calls up demons is not even believable in fiction. Like they wouldn't be caught on camera at some point, or that they wouldn't just end up killing each other due to in fighting. A bunch of power hungry people with access to the forces of hell? Yeah like they would work together.
Third, the opposing force of Edie's resistance... can you have a deus ex machina that shows up at the beginning of a story? One if tge reasons that thisnbook is so boring is because there are very few challenges. Edie has connections that she doesn't even have to look for, they just appear, or they just happen to be close by in their hidden bunker.
This ease of everything really just made the book a seres of unfinished stories told by Edie, and cryptic things that Odd doesn't understand. Even when Odd infiltrates the gathering where the kids are held... Honestly this book and the next one are the novel equivalent of a Steven Segal movie, there's very little happening. Just Odd going into rooms and killing people.
There just isn't much of a point to this one.
I’m the public house anon- sorry! English is not my language, and I meant it in a way that it’s well known as his house (unlike any other “secret” house he possibly owns). And yes, that ig story is in louis’ house, she posts that room quite often.
Thanks for confirming about the room anon. And your English is fantastic - it's a really common term in the fandom. I just disagree with it and the implications.
The phrase 'public house' is never used when talking about where Niall, Liam or Zayn live. I'm sure a lot of celebrities have some places where they live that are known and some that aren't - and live in different situations short and long term. It's just a house, like any other celebrities house.
