Tampa Bay Comic Con 2025 Report

Spent about three hours there. Got in 10,000 steps, apparently. Hooray for physical fitness!

Shout out to this awesome fully armored Heimdall; he even had the contacts in. (I think this is home-made? Must have been a ton of work.)

A Virtual Boy demo kiosk! How many of those do you think still exist?

And this crazy, huge Starscream ... costume? This thing was trucked in in pieces, was like 10 feet tall, and had a guy inside it:

Notable things seen but not photographed: A few Sailor senshi (yay), a Gandalf the Gray with Frodo, a Sexy Squidward, a Jyn Erso (yay), a Cassian Andor (yay!), a lot of fully-decked out Ghostbusters and a Slimer, an RC R5-D4 (the red droid that blows its top early in A New Hope), plenty of Marvel heroes, plenty of Mandalorians, even a few of the brand new Fantastic Four costumes (I guess I shouldn't be surprised), a really good Indy and Marion, a huge Big Daddy from Bioshock.

Also: an Amy Rose, a Tails, a few very nicely kitted-out Stormtroopers and Clonetroopers, and even a couple Rogue One rebel commandos! ... In retrospect, I don't think I saw a single Barbie or Ken – I thought that might have had more staying power. *shrug*

If the situation depicted here is Def-Con 4 I wouldn't like to see what Def-Con 1 is. Def-Con 4 (1984). Another film I haven't seen. Poster looks good but suspect the film may not live up to it.

The poster also looks, um, heavily influenced by this 1978 painting by Angus McKie that was used on a number of book and magazine covers.
