You Cannot Think Your Way Out of a Feeling.
You are smart. That is your greatest weapon, but also your heaviest chain. When pain arrives, you don't feel it. You study it. You dissect your trauma like a frog in a biology class. You label it. You find its root cause in your childhood. You read Jung, you read Freud, you categorize your attachment style.
And then you wonder why you are still bleeding.
Psychology calls this "Intellectualization." It is a defense mechanism designed to keep you safe from the raw chaos of emotion. You build a wall of words to keep the monster out. But understanding the fire does not stop it from burning you. You cannot solve a feeling like a math equation. You have to let it destroy you, so you can be reborn.
Stop analyzing. Start feeling. Put down the book and scream.

The moment you become competent — truly competent — something shifts.
How to change unhealthy defense mechanisms For the most part, defense mechanisms can be toxic to our social skills, as well as relationships with people. For this reason, it is a good idea to target those defense mechanisms and change them. Here are a couple of ways you can do that: 1. Mercy Stop guilt-tripping yourself and realize that you are not always aware of how your mind and ego will react. Reactions and defense mechanisms are automatic and as such, we only experience them, rather than do them. 2. Awareness Each manifestation of a defense mechanism is a chance for you to notice the unhealthy behavior pattern. Once you're aware of it, you have the opportunity to make a conscious decision, cut it halfway through, and change it for the better. 3. Accountability Talking to friends and family can be one of the best ways to get an objective, third-person perspective on your behaviors and mechanisms. This in turn will help you become more aware of them and make change easily inducable. 4. Coping strategies Mindfulness and meditation are two very potent tools for shifting defense mechanisms. The premise is the same - Become aware of your mechanisms and limiting thoughts and take a conscious decision to change them. What is your way of coping? Share down below! Change the mind.
