Este artigo esboça uma abordagem para o trabalho de campo sobre a semântica e a pragmática da dêixis. As expressões dêiticas, como as expres
My pronouns are I/me, but I respond to you
When you think about it, a first person plural pronoun really doesnt make much sense.
In 99% of cases, your not refering to multiple instances of yourself, but just. Yourself and some other guys you grouped into one category out of convenience.
and like i know im not the first person to think this but. Idk i just had the urge to say it ig.
Now this is so cool
Deixis & Distance
Deixis:
(Greek = to show, pointing)
A deictic expression or indexical is therefore used to show/point at someone/something (e.g. me, you, here, there). Deixis is the function/use of such expressions, whose meaning depends on who is talking, who they are talking to, and where they are.
There are different dimensions of deixis:
Person Deixis:
The person deixis indicates the speaker (’I’) and the listener (’you’). In a conversation, the role of speaker and listener constantly shifts between the participants.
Spatial Deixis:
The spatial deixis indicates location (e.g. there, here) and is used to refer to movement towards or away from the speaker (e.g. ‘bring milk from the shop’ vs. ‘take the trash out’). This spatial deixis refers to psychological and physical distance.
Temporal Deixis:
The temporal deixis indicates time (e.g. now, then). It can be applied to both the past and the future and applies to the moment when a speaker makes an utterance and the moment when another person hears the speaker’s utterance.
-> Person, spatial and temporal deixis are all at play in indirect and direct speech (e.g. direct speech = less distance; indirect speech = more distance & shifts to another context, time & location)
