Back in the day, there was this challenge on Twitter in which people requested several fictional characters, and artists had to draw six of them. Or more, in case they got more energy to spare.

Today we're starting with the introduction of ancestries you can choose from in "Mahogard".

(I will add my sketches once I have time to make them look publishable.)

Ancestry - Delga

Description

Delgas have inhabited forests of these lands as long as the collective memory reaches, at least for several centuries before the country of Hanfald was formed. Some of them still live in small hunter-gatherer groups hidden in the woods covering the slopes and foothills of Drakhory - the Dragon Mountains. However many delgas, especially from younger generations, have abandoned traditional ways of life and moved to the villages or the cities.

Delgas are lightly built, with small round faces. They tend to be of paler complexion than other species - although that is not the rule, especially after years of species coexistence. Their hair and eyes usually resemble colours of the forest, from spring-leaf green to oak-trunk brown. But their most distinctive feature is squirrel-like ears, covered with short, delicate fur. Some of the delgas choose to have plant-motif tattoos on their faces that help them go unnoticed while hunting in the forest.

At this point, I believe, I should address the legends about all delgas having no gender. While differences in external appearance between female and male delgas are difficult to see at first — both genders having squirrel-like ears and no horns, both genders wearing the same kind of outfits — once I had spent most time with them, I could easily distinguish them. However, apart from bearing the child and breastfeeding, there are no tasks within their community that would be restricted to one gender. All children are raised together by assigned guardians, while their parents return to their tasks. I admit to have been confused to see that children don't have any bond with their birth parents — or at least bond is not stronger than with any other member of their tribe.

One can only deplore the lack of any written sources among delgas. This scarcity prevents us from discovering the roots of delgas. While delgas did come up with their writing system, they are regrettably careless when it comes to preserving any written materials. Most of their history are taught through songs and myths repeated from generation to generation; but given that those songs and myths are varying in different tribes, one can hardly deem them a reliable source. The lack of written sources are believed to be a primary reason for lack of any significant inventions among the delgas in past centuries.
