BEEP BEEP BEEP!
What the hell?!
BEEP BEEP BEEP!
It took her a minute to realize the ear-splitting sound was the fire alarm, but once it dawned on her what it was, she was quick to throw her covers off and go running from the room, pausing only to grab her sneakers from next to the door. She ran toward the stairs, hopping on one foot for a few seconds as she yanked on one shoe, then the other, and she was free to bolt downstairs with the wave of people also running from the building. Once they were out on the street, she looked back up at the building, trying to figure out if anything was actually on fire, wrapping her arms around herself. She normally liked crowds- they were easy to get lost in- but she felt bare and exposed in just her sleep clothes and sock-less sneakers. She looked back down at the crowd around her, not able to see any flames in any of the windows, and felt herself overheating almost immediately.
Atom from the apartment right across from her was standing right next to her… in nothing but his boxers.
Her idle crush on the boy across the way was usually easy to keep in check. She was used to hiding her feelings, but she couldn’t hide instinctive reactions, like the bright red blush that spread across her neck and face and the way her eyes immediately averted, only to sneak back to him. God he was so cute, from his sleep-rumpled hair down to his warm skin that she really shouldn’t be sneaking so many peeks at. She glanced down at herself and her blush worsened. She wished she had on something cuter or sexier or something-er than her oversized t-shirt and shorts. The shorts were short enough that the edge of the t-shirt all but completely hid them from view. Damn, what if he thought she had no shorts on under, that was kind of skanky, wasn’t it? Should she pulled down her shorts a little, or would that just draw unnecessary attention to them and was that weird too? Dammit.
He caught her eyes when she glanced back at him, and she offered a little smile and wave, but couldn’t force any words out past her mental worries.
