Hi! I super loved the sterek ace!Derek rec list you made, it was really awesome! As an ace person, it's always nice to see healthy, validating, fluffy fics. I am curious, though. Why did you specifically want it to be Derek that was ace? (rather than Stiles?)

About this list. Honestly, it’s just personal preference; while my actual headcanon is that Derek is demi and Stiles is bi, I pulled out the type of fics I’d love to see more of. I think there are a lot of interesting and even canonically compliant ways to write about ace!Derek, and there aren’t nearly enough fics in that category. 

I’ve read and liked fics where Stiles is ace, or both of them are ace, but the thing I really like seeing is a healthy depiction of an asexual person with a sexual partner. I like the idea that Stiles has a strong sex drive and that even if Derek doesn’t, Stiles loves and is 100% committed to him. He doesn’t love Derek despite that. He doesn’t love Derek and search out other people to fulfill needs that Derek doesn’t/can’t. He loves Derek exactly as he is and doesn’t want anyone else in his life in a romantic or sexual capacity because Derek is enough.

I think that kind of story is an important one to tell, because from my experience, a lot of people on the ace spectrum struggle with feeling like something in them is missing. That they’re not enough for another person to love, and that dating a sexual person and expecting them to be monogamous is somehow selfish. I want to see more stories that show that isn’t true. That they are enough. That we are worthy of being loved. And for the most part, I connect more to Derek, so I have a stronger response to stories that center around his emotional journey.
