Kat Reviews A Cool Thang: Democratea 2016 hot teas from The Tea Book!!
Quick Sidenote: I have recently gotten into the wild and crazy world of product reviews. I feel generally very excited, but also overwhelmed. So many social media posts to do, so little time. :)
Anyhoo…The Tea Book sent me some awesomely awesome DemocraTEA 2016 presidential hot teas for free to try and review. I think I literally gasped out loud when I found out that 2016 presidential election teas even existed. I am very much obsessed with drinking hot tea and consider myself a politics enthusiast. I also collect every paper, poster, button, sticker, cap, etc. that I can buy or find from every election since around 2008. And what a great election year to be collecting things!! I was thrilled to get to try a product that I felt reflected my interests so closely.
As soon I pulled the tea bags out of the package, I noticed that the artwork was brightly colored, vibrant, and detailed. Both candidates are drawn very well and surrounded by small images that reflect the stereotypical or popular beliefs about them. I laughed about the small Bill Clinton playing the sax riding the donkey on the Hillary tea. I loved that Trump sits in front of a huge chain link wall on his tea bag. Ha!! My Dad, who is the biggest politics nut/analyst/CNN watcher ever, suggested that I save a few tea bags and frame them to commemorate such a giant and crazy election. I plan to save the beautiful tea bags for something, even if I just pull them out in 30 years and shake my head and laugh. ;) Political artwork is the coolest, though.
I brewed both teas to test the flavors. The Donald TEArump tea is a “pure white tea with peach” and it tasted very light, fruity, and smelled so fragrant while brewing. It turned a golden, peachy color and tasted great with honey. The Hillary ClinTEAn tea is a “vanilla essence” black tea with stevia. The aroma of this tea was a bit nauseating, as all vanilla teas are. I just don’t like vanilla teas, personally. The flavor was rich, bold, and tasted pretty good when I actually tried it. It brewed into a dark brown color. I did not add any sweetener to the Hillary tea because I thought that the stevia would be really sweet, though it was not. I think I prefer the taste of the peach Trump tea, only because of my personal taste preference. Both teas tasted good and are made with organic ingredients. I noticed and appreciated this!!
I liked that the flavors so creatively matched the candidates. Donald Trump would totally be a white and orange tea with a hint of light and airiness (aka craziness). The Hillary Tea was a bit of a mystery for me. I understand that she is a white/vanilla woman, but does the essence part refer to being a woman or a feminist??? And was the stevia supposed to be a crack at her weight/weight management??? I think I’m thinking way too much, but I did really enjoy the creative flavors. It would be totally hard to come up with a flavor to reflect the candidates, if you think about it!!
So now comes the point where you are probably asking, “Why the heck should I buy or care about these hot teas?” Ok here are the answers. The DemocraTEA2016 teas would make great favors for the guests at your next debate watch or candidate phone calling party. Your guests will all be sipping their teas and just relishing in the political drama and excitement! You could also buy these teas for the politics loving, tea drinking, art collecting gal or guy in your life. They will probably hug you and love the gift! These teas would make a wonderful holiday gag gift for the office or for that outspoken Trump or Hillary person that really would hate to own any item from the opposite candidate. The laughs would be great! Lastly, you can just pick up these teas to enjoy this fall around election time and then save the packages to look back on over the years. Just like me! The possibilities are endless.
One last thing that I really appreciate about The Tea Book’s mission with the DemocraTEAs is that they were created to be funny and lighthearted. They write that we may have to use tea leaves to choose the president in this election! As much as I admire a serious and pretentious tea, I like the silly and wacky tea much more in this situation! If you have enjoyed this post or pictures in any way, please go check out The Tea Book (@theteabook) on social media, on Amazon, or at their website www.democratea2016.com. They are a cool and innovative company doing big things!
Happy Tea sipping and politics watching!!
I received these products free for reviewing purposes from The Tea Book and through Tomoson. All opinions are my own.
