Your girlfriend was turned into a demon recently.

Well, she's not really your girlfriend anymore, she's just a girl that lives with you. Demons aren't capable of romantic or sexual feelings, but you wouldn't just give up on her like that. She was a powerful mage, and she became a demon due to a spell backfiring, it's not her fault these things happen sometimes. You still take care of her, you sort of feel you could have done more.

It's obvious she's a demon from looking at her, most obviously her eyes turned black and her teeth sharpened, and her skin became rather pale. It's not as inhuman as some demons but it's still a lot. More subtlety a three peice suit she used to wear has fused to her, becoming part of her body that she can never take off. And her movements have become what you can only call disturbing. You almost wish she was less human, that you didn't keep seeing her face, that you could ignore the fact that she used to be herself. You'd be lying to say you didn't find yourself disturbed by her, the way you have to bring small animals to her so that she'll have souls to eat, the way her facial expressions don't match up with normal emotions, the way she looks like a mockery of the girl you once loved.

In past generations you would have been told to kill her or lock her away, nowadays it still happens but there are other options. Your city has a large transformed population, and your freind group is all on board with taking care of her as long as she needs. She's had to stop taking college courses for now while she recovers from the transformation, but you hope she gets to sign up for them again. It's assumed that when someone transforms like that they're not going to be part of society anymore, that those aspects of their old life are dropped. Even though she's not seeing her family again, you hope that with her freinds and her school she still gets to continue her old life in some sort of way.

She's as afraid of herself as you are of her. From what you know of demons from media you were ready to kill her the momment she transformed, you stopped being so egar when you found out she felt the same way too. She's worried she'll hurt someone, even though you know that she'd never be the type to, she's worried she's permanently lost something that makes her herself even though you know interacting with her that she'll always be herself. She spends a lot of time upset, thinking about everything she misses from humanity, things she'll never have again. She says she feels cold, colder then a human body ever could be, you try to hug her to make her warm.

You hug her a lot, you want her to still feel loved, and for her to know that even though she lost her ability to have sex, she still can experience love and affection in other ways. For some reason you assumed she'd stop liking you when she stopped being attracted to you, but she still likes you. The things that made her love you as a girlfriend when she was human make her love you as a freind now. It'll never be the same, but it can still be happy. The more you spend time with her the more you realize it still really is her, same sense of humor, same philosophy, same way of viewing the world. Now that she's off from school she spends a lot of time watching scifi movies from when she was young, or playing weird video games, it's exactly how she always is at her most burnt out. She wants to practice magic again, but it's still taking time, she doesn't want to make things worse. Things are moving so slowly, but it's still her, it's still her.

You know that a lot of demons end up doing terrible things, partly because of what it does to someone when they lose all their support network. But she didn't, her freinds, including you, are making sure she's happy, making sure to give her attention, and praise, and hugs, and little gifts, and it doesn't seem that she's turning out that way. She doesn't need to turn to dark things, when she's still here, she's still alive, and you realize that you're happy she's still alive.
