Just wanted to share this original character design of a tubeworm Denizen of the Deep for Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion before midnight/New Years. Honestly I started the design roughly around the time the expansion was released, but I never got around to actually finishing it until about this past June or July, but I never posted it, sorry about that😅. But I figured it would be alright if I at least posted it before midnight, New Year's Day, in my region of the world. A quick bit about it, I had decided to do a tubeworm because they are some of the more well known creatures of the deep sea, anglerfish being another example. Frankly I was waiting for the DLC to come out so I could see if tubeworm NPCs were added, thankfully for me they were not. Seeing as how every Denizen of the Deep is more or less distracted by something I chose to have this tubeworm denizen be distracted by their makeup, as people sometimes compare tubeworms to a tube of lipstick, due to their appearance. I had also decided to have them wear a white sweater dress to replicate the tube-like shell the worms inhabit, and to try to give it a bit of an 80's aesthetic to try and match Octo Expansion's. Any how, happy New Year to where ever you are, where I am we only have some odd amount of minutes left. Before anything begins, Ella's lore takes place in a LOZ AU of mine where I'm basically just using the LOZ world and characters and repurposing them into my own little fun world!
Around the time she was created, along with five others, by the Goddess Hylia, Ella was known as the Sage of Spirits. (Her being is quite similar to Steven Universe's gems in that they have some sort of stone that constitutes their actual being, and they can be "poofed" and are immortal.) Ella's job was to keep the spiritual balance of the world, guide souls to the afterlife, and watch over said souls, which were kept near the world's core, also known as the Depths. Ella fulfilled this role for over 20,000 years until she became envious of the other sages, feeling overshadowed by the rest of them. Each sage had their own race and tribe, completely different and diverse from one another, and Ella only got their dead "leftovers." This envy eventually caused Ella to snap and send out malicious spirits towards all people. This act permanently severed Ella's purpose and role as a sage, and eventually, her body was sealed away in the deepest points of the Depths, where she would remain trapped for 10,000 years, only being freed due to an explorer unknowingly breaking the seal. Ella would terrorize Hyrule once more before being cornered by the other sages, where she struck a deal with them to avoid being sealed away again. The deal was that she would have to go back to her former duties as a sage, but she would be able to treat any living being any way she wanted, on the condition that she could not physically harm them, although this rule didn't apply to dark entities or what the other sages considered 'evil.'
- Ella has a spirit form, which makes her entire body a light, glowing green and removes all her facial features except for her right eye. (she can also phase through objects in this form :3)
- Ella has an ability where she can summon anything she wants, but anything she summons will have the same glowing light green color as her spiritual form.
- Out of anything she can summon, Ella's favorite weapons are these pair of daggers attached to a chain, which she can change the length of. (Just think of those weapons Kai used in Kung Fu Panda 3 it's actually exactly what I'm going for 😭)
- Ella is still very bitter about the Sages, Hylia, and the deal she struck, but it's better than being sealed away again according to her.
- Ella no longer prefers the title 'The Sage of Spirit' and now uses the title 'The Denizen of the Deep.'
- Ella can actually sense whenever anyone dies and knows exactly how they passed.
- Ella was actually fully conscious of and aware of everything that was going on in the world during her imprisonment.
- Ella takes the form of a Hylian but unlike Hylians she has sharp teeth.
