Mulling my own take on a classic ATLA fandom plotline with a twist:
The Avatar cliche plot that Azula postwar loses her Bending.....because Long Feng gets his belated revenge for losing everything he worked for by using Dai Li technology to convince her she never was a Bender in the first place. Firebending is established as having a psychological component, so this is actually a plausible route for this to happen.
This story would start with a Gaang + Zuko and Iroh breakout/rescue attempt, because the idea of what the Dai Li might do with Azula is a Code Red scenario where even Kuei basically goes 'Oh fuck no'. Then afterward the broader storyline beyond Azula's own experiences hinges on the world's Benders handling very poorly that the Dai Li can sever people's Bending by technology whose full existence is confirmed here.
Unlike other scenarios where this is presented as a good thing it's very much a bad thing, and as much as the Dragon Verse owes to Fatherland, this one is essentially Flowers for Algernon as a riff.
It also relies on a fuller exploration of 'powers as identity' and would ultimately include elements of yet another interworking of a few bits from Miracleman. There will be bits where powerless Azula has some moments riffing from that first issue with the dream of flying, and of course when she will (as she will) eventually get her powers back.
