You're right! It's great. I noticed it just now in a later book too (amusingly, the context was similar, with the same three characters even) just because you pointed it out. The sound effects for this translation were so fun and creative!

It also seems, well, pretty '80s, doesn't it? And you're right, it can easily be faked at different distances. I hadn't thought of that until now!

Hmmm, trying to think. Aside from the parentage of Ace and Usopp (I'm pretty sure Sabo explained about that to Luffy at one point? Unless I'm remembering a fic and not the manga), I do think he thought Shirahoshi and her brothers were cool to be related? Maybe? I don't think he really reacted to Nojiko at all and he's not been a fan of Sanji's relatives of course...And I kinda think that's it for big relationship spoilers beyond his own at this point.

I've completely forgotten that part of the Fishman Island arc. You're right, there's not really enough data to base anything on.

(There's Tom and Denny, too, but it's not like he knew all that much about Tom to begin with... )
