☮️ (peace symbol) for Anakin and Obi-Wan, please!
I’m highly flexible on their relationship when it comes to reading fic. But pinning it down to how I view canon, it’s this incredibly close relationship that you can’t really define. In a lot of ways they’re like father and son, with just how much Obi-Wan loves his large troubled child, and Anakin loves nothing better than to rebel against him over stupid things. But it’s not quite that.
“Brothers” is is another great description, and is why the betrayal cut so deep on both sides. But it’s not quite that either.
I’ve seen the quotes (I don’t know from which source) about them being two halves of a whole warrior. That’s getting closer to things. Another quote was them being more intimate than lovers. Which is...an odd way of putting it. It automatically makes one think about a sexual relationship, which very definitely did not happen in canon. (But I get that in our society we tend to think of sexually intimate relationships as the closest you can possibly be to another person. Which is flawed thinking, but that’s what we’ve got to work with. And so the quote was trying to say that their relationship is the closest thing you can possibly imagine.)
Basically in a universe where Anakin didn’t fall, they would have spent their entire lives living in each other’s pockets.
Padme would have been “this is my husband Anakin, and this is his Jedi-sanctioned non-attachment (tm) platonic life partner Obi-Wan.”
