Veterupristisaurus was a carcharodontosaurid from the Kimmeridgian-Tithonian stages of the Late Jurassic, about 154 to 150 million years ago, making it the earliest known member of the group. It was found in the Tendaguru Beds of southeastern Tanzania. This implies that the group evolved from the Allosaurus-like dinosaur found in the beds and was very closely related to the ancestor for the whole group. It was a large biped, about 8.5 to 10 meters long. It lived alongisde Dysalotosaurus, Kentrosaurus, Pterodactylus, Rhamphorhynchus, Barosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Dicraeosaurus, Giraffatitan, Allosaurus, Ceratosaurus, Megalosaurus, Elaphrosaurus, and many other dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and other prehistoric animals.
