DEVELOPING THE STRIPE // IMPROVING POLYCHROMATIC

THE STRIPE: I have developed the stripe by using devore with one of my hand drawn screens. It takes the edge off the harsh lines and creates a playful texture which adds to my collection rather than distracting from it. 

POLYCHROMATIC: I decided that this small sample could be developed into a piece that could contribute to my collection. I have re-painted it and printed it onto a sheer fabric to bring an interesting layer to my other samples.

GROUP CRIT//FORMING COLLECTIONS

We had a group crit session that helped me make some decisions about wha to do next. It was helpful to lay my work out so that i could see my progress and recognise where there may be gaps and room to develop. I definitely have a collection forming but theres still pieces that could be developed to pull it all together. 

THE STRIPE: Its boring. This collection is about playful textures and versatile colours- the stripe is colourful but it doesn't bring anything interesting to the other pieces. I want to work with Devore to create the texture that i feel is missing. i was the the pieces to be tactile and engaging. At this stage, the stripe lacks these elements.

MOVING FORWARD:

Its important that everyones drawings are within the collection and for this reason , we have decided that isolating areas of the drawings that weren't quite in the right direction is a really interesting way to gather our work and create a varied selection of designs. These images are the drawings that were not right , we have taken the eyes from the floral skull because we found this shape on it own or in a pair repeated is actually a really interesting mark. By including this, we have referenced the punk era without it screaming a copy of whats been perviously done. We have also decided to introduce the ‘X’into the collection for similar justification. Less is more and by discreetly referencing the punk age , we have captured the ethos and origins of the brand in a new , fresh way . 

We are now working the idea of using the ‘eyes’ (shapes) to over lay onto other textures and fill gaps in designs that could afford to have  more going on.

3.COLOUR BACKGROUND: this has been a very successful insight into the effectiveness of colour on colour and how impacting it can be on a basic design.

4.ASPECT OF A SUBJECT: By taking aspect of my whale drawings, i have created what i would consider to be a supporting design if i were creating a collection. 

photoshop has been a key tool in developing this project and i feel i have gained greater confidence and understanding in the software and its possibilities.

SAMPLING

A conclusion of my sampling: 

My sample folder displays my processes and fabric choices. When choosing fabrics, i refereed to my research and WGSN inspiration to ensure that my designs were incepting with the brief of future fashions. 

I have also worked on techniques such as Devore and binder to create samples that reference the sheer and textured fabrics that are coming into trends in the future. 

I am interested with creating a mixed weight to the feel of my samples and exploring how these would hang differently on a figure compared with a standard printed cotton. The future of fashion is pushing the limits of wearable fabrics and manipulating them to add interest.
