“the state or fact of being ignorant; lack of knowledge, learning, information, etc.”
5 days a week, 8-10 hours each of those days, I’m working with 4 kids who have autism. 2 of which are nonverbal. One of those two unable to even copy words that I say. My job takes a lot of patience. A lot of compassion. A lot of love. One of my biggest turn offs and one of my biggest pet peeves is when people are IGNORANT towards humans with disabilities. ANY disability. You never have ANY excuse to be rude. To be disrespectful. Or to be nasty. If you get yourself into a job that has to do with caregiving with someone with a disability then you DAMN well be kind and compassionate. Frustration is common and normal and understandable. I get frustrated with my job, but I am never rude. I do NOT get upset at them for how they communicate, which is sometimes scratching or yelling or tantruming because some are unable to talk. They need you to listen. That is when you love them most and you listen with your eyes. They need and want to be heard.. just imagine… being unable to talk and not having anyway to communicate. How hard would that be!? REALLY think about it…They’re smart, loving and fascinating souls who all have a SHIT ton to say. And it’s always important and it’s always valid. They’re humans, too.
