The most unbelievable thing about this match is that Devil Masami comes into it having only wrestled for two years. She's so good it feels like a lie but it's certainly true. Maybe that's down to the philosophy that these wrestlers were trained with. Strikes are almost entirely absent. Instead, to show their fire and passion they jockey for control on the mat. The idea is that they're desperate for it: Masami will at times simply smother Jackie with no technique, and she's constantly adjusting her submissions and adding little flourishes to increase the pain. In contrast Jackie is a technical wonderkid, slipping out of her grasp with clever reversals. The main concession they make to contemporary ideas of wrestling beauty is Jackie's signature sling blade, one of the best performed moves in all of wrestling in my opinion. But mostly when they're standing they just try to throw each other as hard and as from high a height as they can. All this culminates in the cruel shock finish you probably wouldn't see today, in front of the rows and rows of screaming girls.
