that susan conversation in devils chord… oh she’s coming back for REAL. susan WILL be in this fucking season.
I know we all laugh at Fourteen and Donna screwballing the universe and then immediately tapping out of the storyline in favor of oops-not-vegan casseroles in the backyard but
What was Fourteen up to during the Devil’s Chord? What were any of the previous Doctors up to? We saw with Mavity that they’re at least somewhat aware of changes in the time stream. Did Maestro change things so dramatically that the Doctor had never fallen in love with Earth in the first place? Or did Fourteen blink and open his eyes to find the Earth he knew, the one they’d been slowly learning to live and rest in day by day, gone? Changed irrevocably, Donna, Rose, YazRoryAmyWilfGrahamBillRoseallofthem maybe never even born? Blink again and they’re all back, unaware that it’s even happened? The panic that could have brought, as he realizes that they’ve surrendered the mantle to his new self, and trusted themselves to keep the universe spinning, but now that means he’s helpless. If their future self fucks up, they’re irrevocably screwed too. No way to find out what’s going on, nothing they can do, their entire timeline relying on a version of them they barely know.
Alternatively, Fourteen blinking, seeing London in flames, finding a nice hunk of broken concrete to sit down on, and sighing impatiently as they wait for himself to hurry up and fucking fix it so they can finish beating Rose at Uno
I'm now fully completely caught up on Ncuti's first season and I absolutely LOVE it. It's probably my favourite season since... 10? Not because "blah blah Anti 13", but I really do love Capaldi's era, A LOT.
Space Babies was weird and silly but perfect daft modern Doctor Who. Devils Chord was straight out of McCoy's era but my god Maestro is FANTASTIC. I loved Boom, Boom was just "chefs kiss*, but I say that as a Moffatt apologist.
73 Yards was SO creepy, if a little predictable. I love it when DW actually uses the passages of time in an interesting way. Dot and Bubble was, again, very McCoy, but also Black Mirror. Still liked it.
Rogue was LUSH. Super fun, a great introduction to a potential recurring character. Ncuti could easily carry his own period drama.
The Legend of Ruby Sunday absolutely CRUSHED IT. PEAK Doctor Who. I just really hope they stick the landing and keep it as creepy and terrifying as possible.
Ncuti's Doctor is wonderful, Ruby is absolutely fantastic. Russell writes plutonic companions SO well.
I'm having a fucking fantastic time watching my favourite show ever and honestly that's all I could ever ask for.
the master always brings their own music because they can also hear the diagetic music and are fed up of the dramatic music the doc brings everywhere
Question:
Why are they making it a point this season that the Doctor hasn’t had kids?
Like 9 said he was a dad, 10 did, 11 basically did, 12 “dad skills” , I can’t remember if 13 did but is this all being retconned??
Doing a rewatch before the finale tonight and noticed something interesting.
In Devil’s Chord, Ruby asked The Doctor if he had kids. His answer was “I did have, I will have.” This implies that he had kids at some point but also knows of some that haven’t been born yet.
In boom, the doctor said “Dad to Dad.”
But when Kate asked in Legend, he said No, not yet.
So something happened. Something happened between Boom and Legend of Ruby Sunday. Either erasing his children from time or from his memory.
Which leads to an interesting question. What happened between those episodes? The adventures we saw were 73 yards, Dot and Bubble and Rogue.
73 yards was just one big paradox that rewrites itself at the end, but it also includes a fae circle. The fae are known for taking children, could Mad Jack have somehow taken The Doctor’s children? And removed them from time and/or his memory?
Dot and Bubble is unlikely to make a difference to The Doctor’s past. Had he not been involved everyone at finetime would have died and as it stands they all died. Nothing that would impact his children.
Then we have Rogue. There are a few possibilities here. Some kind of butterfly effect could have taken place, it’s set in the past after all and it would tie in with the butterfly at the beginning of the season that Ruby stepped on. Or maybe it’s something about Rogue himself. Maybe he was meant to go on to be their other parent and being in another dimension altered the timeline (I’m aware that’s a reach). Or maybe it’s got something to do with the ring that Rogue gave him.
this seasons beginning was shakey, and i think part of it was my anxiety after 13, but this season has quickly risen in my ranking
