grace has all human knowledge on erid via computer, which means he has youtube, which means grace can pick up like every fiber art the second they figure out how to get wool or synthesize something similar (eridians have clothes in the book right? so at the very least they have some kind of polyester or a new fiber unique to erid. maybe something coarser since im not sure eridians seek softness like humans)

so what im saying is Grace's electrical wire shoelaces are the equivalent of duct taping your shit together to procrastinate actually fixing it. grace would love fiber arts, its very relaxing especially if you need a brain break but can't be fully head empty (or need to do something with your hands). grace my brother in hail mary please just pick an afternoon and a youtube channel and lock the fuck in

hear me out: the hail mary being able to sense simons juuuuuuuuust slightly radioactive but Grace decides to get him anyway to try. Grace promising Rocky that he's slightly better at handling radiation bc humans are 70% water but advising Rocky to keep distance until they get Simon and the sub's radiation to a minimum. Rocky terrified he'll lose Grace to the radiation just like his crew but being unable to get Grace to change his mind.

maybe rocky has to sit out while grace tries to keep the radioactive human stable. researches radiation furiously, shadows him constantly when grace comes back because he can't let grace die too, he has information to fix noew and rockys no svientist but he HAS to keep grace from dying

maybe rocky decides no, if youre in there im in there and sticks with Grace constantly, even in the radiation containment room, because Rocky Will Not Watch Grace Die and would rather get sick with him. Grace, who also fears Rocky is especially susceptible to radiation due to being very little water creature, now has to balance making sure this humans safe and not extremely alone while also keeping rocky from getting too much radiation

or maybe sonething in between. but when simon does wake up, he finds the human (who hes much more comfortable with due to him being Human) extremely inseparable from the alien spider despite not really hiding his nerves with Rocky around.

(eventually they get him radiation free dont ask me how, maybe they just happen to have some of the fungi that eats radiation on board. im not certain, but i was under the impression that astrophage blocked radiation more than it ate it, and it more thar it eats heat energy than just all radiation? again unsure but with how it goes to stars and breeding-suitable planets only i figure itd be pretty hard to get astrophage to 1) go to a human body for food, even if its radioactive, because it chases light and humans don't emit light and 2) to safely enter a human body to eat the radiation, and then safely *leave* the body. can it enter the bloodstream? will it be attacked by the immune system before it gets to the radiation? would it be limited by the body since it holds so much energy and propels by releasing light? im not a scientist these might be dumb questions but i feel like its more complicated than just "and the astrophage ate the radiation 👍")(no hate tho im definitely the type to handwave shit bc i just dont wanna figure it out, nothing wrong with that, just also thinkin bout it for fun)

vividly imagining rn grace on erid making 'videos' (rockys 3d screen to be able to see earths light-based screens either already are erids versions of tvs or they can easily become it) like Bill Nye except he's teaching as many earth concepts as possible before he dies. vividly imagining him teaching light by comparing it to sound and doing his fun voice stuff he did in the classroom flashback

Grace calling himself aroace in the most common "its where you don't wanna date/get married/have a romantic and sexual partner'' conception for a while without looking into it that much, then panicing when he experiences sexual attraction at some point thinking he was wrong or became a 'late bloomer' stereotype he knows people hate, only to investigate further and find that aroace is actually two different words, aromantic and asexual, amd they're not synonyms. and he finds he's Aromantic, but not a sex-repulsed asexual (take your pic of what it is, allo, gray, demi, sex-favorable ace, etc)

random side note, but its totally cool for students to call Grace "Dr. Grace" instead of "Mr. Grace" like totally casually. idk if they do in the book, but i graduated hs in 2020 and had a good few Dr. teachers and can confirm it didn't really change anything, and their name just sounded wrong if you used anything else

and what if i started writing some kind of in-universe transcription of an in-universe bill-nye ass lesson video Grace makes on light and how humans use it to see. what if. what if i did it and wasn't even a scientist
