lol so I made a shitpost a second ago and I was too vague and went ‘oops haha you can confuse Dewey for Lars there’. I have tried making links between Dewey and Lars before, but it’d be neat if Emerald came back with henchgems that were looking for “A Pink Humanoid who is bald save a chunk of hair on the top of their head“ to get Big Revenge and they accidentally kidnapped Dewey instead of Lars?
And both Lars and Dewey are quasi-immortal - we know about Lars already, but this is how we’d learn about Dewey. Steven confronts henchgems - keeps getting teen-angst-annoyed, insisting Dewey has no special undead powers and he’s just a weird middle-aged human with a perpetual sunburn and oop he’s actually a 200 YEAR OLD GEM HUMAN HYBRID EXPERIMENT lmao
Dewey’s attitude towards money is kinda baffling, especially given how his character develops through the series. The nicknames for both he and Buck are money-related, obvs. They don’t seem absurdly rich, but money is definitely a theme.
Dewey seems very money grubbing at times, but then will do stuff like let Jamie run the community theater after going over-budget on a play - I guess the bit of campaigning for Dewey at the end of the play might have persuaded him, maybe. He still rewards Jamie, but with a caveat - “you can put on more plays, as long as the budget allows it”.
He doesn’t seem miserly with actual resources, either - he lets Buck and Steven use his ~state-of-the-art screen printing equipment~ even after he learns that they aren’t using it to help him campaign. He also does random stuff like buy a GIANT thing of ice cream for the town and has fireworks shows on New Year so?? When it comes to making people happy, he seems okay with spending money and sharing resources - probably because it will make people like him?

Let’s assume (because I’d guess the show wants us to?) that Dewey gets a fairly middle class salary from being mayor. He then goes from that to making (presumably) minimum wage at a donut shop? He also seems super happy with this work and he doesn’t seem to consider it a step down. He gives donuts away for free, even.
Working in a donut shop doesn’t make you money, but it may make people like you if you do it right. Everybody loves donuts, right?

The most we know about Steven’s aging so far is that it happens very slowly and inconsistently. He needs to learn it from someone else - and Greg and the Gems are going to be useless to him for this.
They even manage to fit in a fire reference - the candles on the cake! Dewey’s symbol is fire - hE’S GOT A FLAME ON HIS HEAD OK. THERE’S EVEN GARNET - A FUSION - HOLDING IT BECAUSE DEWEY WAS A FUSION EXPERIMENT WITH GEMIFIED COMPONENTS OF WILLIAM DEWEY AND BUDDY BUDWICK QWNBRWMNE;R;R;LKW
We might even see something similar to this episode again but with more of a resolution - because Dewey is going to show Steven how to permanently reform to a different age! I think it might involve Connie having a growth spurt and Steven wanting to match her in some ways. It might also involve Dewey shapeshifting or reforming to appear younger for Jamie, just as Steven tried to look older for Connie.
