You’re gonna have to deal with DGM content as I come up with new things to fixate on 🧎.

Like how in chapter 38, Allen’s eye had evolved in such a way that allowed others nearby to see an Akuma’s soul (which Lavi described as “hell”).

But in later chapters, this ability just.. Vanishes and isn’t mentioned again. By anyone.

And then in chapter 187, being able to see the souls was something to be envied...

Despite how obviously close they were which should have prompted the sight to be shared. I guess, in theory, it would be a hassle to always show the First-Timers reaction to seeing an akuma’s soul but it would be such a fascinating thing to see.

The other exorcists don’t see or hear how the souls are screaming to be stopped- saved, helped, put to rest.

Lavi would be the only one able to properly sympathize but only to some degree. Eliade was only a Level Two at the time but the soul only becomes more mangled as they evolve (as levels one and two got very little reaction from Allen but level threes made him desperate to save them and level fours made him vomit and cry the moment he saw them).

And again, no one saw anything despite their continuous proximity to Allen during any of the fights they were in after the evolution of his cursed eye.

So I'm watching the D.Gray-Man dub after finishing the subs, and WOW, I'm not usually a dubs vs. subs elitist or anything but what the actual hell are some of these pronunciations?

Pluralizing Akuma, Lenalee's name, Komui's name, Lavi's name, Arystar's name, the way Kanda says Mugen, wtf is happening here?

And literally the most mindboggling, most egregious example, someone decided the second 'E' in Eliade is silent?! It literally doesn't sound like a woman's name pronounced that way, I just stopped watching in the middle of the episode because I'm so confused?

I love Funimation and don't usually have a problem with their dubs, but this actually, for reals sounds like NOBODY on staff, or any voice actors for that matter, watched the original before recording the dialogue.

It's seriously not that difficult to at least make sure you're not that far different from the source material? I'm honestly terrified of how some other names are going to sound now. I wanted to enjoy this because D.Gray-Man has so little English-language content as it is, but everything is just so weird?

Eliad, you guys, Eliad.

EDIT: This just in, it turns out that’s legitimately how you pronounce her name in ROMANIAN??! That has got to be the oddest choice for which name to pronounce in a culturally accurate way, especially since Hoshino probably didn’t know either? Love her but her character names are kinda crazy.
