Nepali food from Bolt in the Blue by @valeriianz
Today's post is so very special because it's my third Dreamling recipes anniversary post and also because it's time to make food from one of my most favorite fics ever, Bolt in the Blue or BITB! If you've been in the Sandman fandom for a while, you are no stranger to this fic. BITB has been a constant in our lives for 3 years; we have ardently followed and waited for updates on this Dreamling band AU and there are many works inspired by it too! (The yellow sweater Insta post series is hilarious and there is so much art)! It's one of those Dreamling fics that has its own fandom base. And Kris just weaves her words so well that you will find yourself immersed in the world of music, tours, concerts, tech details, new cities, an expanding playlist, and a budding romance between two very different people.
BITB is about bassist Morpheus, who plays for the band Endless, and his relationship with stage tech Hob. It's a slow burn in the most delicious way. Hob is absolutely smitten with the aloof Morpheus and while the first few chapters have Hob pining after Morpheus, we soon see how gone Morpheus is for Hob too. Then starts the hiding their relationship from others part, where they torture themselves and the readers, but they also get to know each other well. I'm not going to give away the final part of the fic but one thing that is common throughout the story is Hob's utter devotion, adoration, and care for Morpheus. How can anyone not fall in love with this guy?!
This post is based on a scene where Morpheus invites Hob for dinner and has ordered Nepali food. Fun fact, I was in a Nepali restaurant the day this was posted and so glad Kris finally included a food scene! I could finally make something inspired by such a favorite fic! Below we have Dal Bhat, Momos, red chilli garlic chutney, Dhido with Gundruk (my greens are not as fermented as I would have liked but I followed the rest of the recipe), Chicken (instead of lamb since I don't like eating lamb, but it's slow cooked like a traditional mutton or lamb recipe), and sweets like Yomari (I did a coconut and date molasses filling), and thin donuts, which probably refers to a popular fried Nepali sweet called Sel Roti. Here are a few lines from the fic!
